You can only draft so many players, you absolutely have to sign guys in free agency. As constructed I do not see us winning any more games with Dak at the helm than with Dalton. Dak played just as bad at times before all the OL injuries piled up. In seasons past Dak has also struggled when Zeke wasn't able to carry the team or when 1 OL wasn't a pro bowler. So no the difference between these 2 isn't that big, both look good vs bad teams both struggle against good defenses. As far as free agency, you absolutely can add impact players without paying max money and they will have too since half or more of the secondary will be free agents. They do have to choose the right guys at the right price and i'm not saying they will but they will need flexibility to do so and double down by drafting well. They could add 2 CB, 1 safety, could help tremendously vs the junk we currently have today. and that is doable between free agency and the draft.
I don't disagree that you have to sign some free agents. probably for depth, to improve depth (as we can attest to the need this year). but you CANNOT build a team through FA. offense or defense. you don't go on a FA spending spree to sign high priced FAs to build a strong defense. no team has ever succeeded in trying to do that..... there are multiple reasons behind that. great, impactful, HOF type players are often resigned by their own team and hardly hit free agency. teams use franchise tag as a means to extend time to negotiate....if FAs hit the market, they are often flawed. they are older, injured, head cases. Jerry needs to understand and admit where the team is and he has often been wrong, taking chances thinking we are one player away. Greg Hardy was a great example. Ronaldo Mcclain. there is long list of FAs he signed that failed....and most, almost all on defensive side of the ball.
I think we would have a better chance of winning with Dak....a much better chance of winning.....Dak is worlds' above Dalton....WORLDs ABOVE...everyone and their grandmother knows Dalton is washed up. all this nonsense rhetoric by a few here are just for fun for them. seems like you are also washed up in the nonsense...... everyone knows Dalton is not the answer to anything....and I find it amusing that everyone tends to over analyze, every throw, every series, every play, every quarter, every game for a player. no player can stand to that level of scrutiny. not even tom Brady.
and this year it became painfully obvious what the offense was capable of doing with Dak, vs. anybody else back there, with pretty much the same players....coaching held us back in the past. I challenge anyone to tell me how many superbowls would Brady or Rottlisberger win with Garrett as their head coach.
and even if we didn't sign Dak. have 20M extra on the cap, is this defense one impact player away from being a dominant defense that it would need to compensate for a way below average QB? you would need several of those to be decent and we run into the same cap issue all you all are complaining about.
which basically it comes down one thing. everyone just doesn't like the contract numbers for Dak for some reason without being to prove why it would hinder the team and without being to prove that the alternative is better, when all stats, numbers, facts point to one fact. this offense was/is much better with Dak than any quarterback we have on the roster.
