Donovan Wilson's Making a Case to be a Starter in 2021

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t had very many bright spots in 2020, but second-year Safety Donovan Wilson is certainly starting to look like one. In fact, his play this season might just earn him a starting job next season in 2021.

After missing the previous two weeks with a groin injury Donovan Wilson was entering Week 15 already with three forced fumbles under his belt, two of which he recovered. Now he can add an interception to his resume after picking off San Francisco 49ers QB Nick Mullins.

The former Texas A&M safety is putting together quite a resume in his second year with the Dallas Cowboys. It took injuries and poor play for the coaching staff to finally get him more involved, but once they did he started making his presence known on the backend of the defense.

To date he’s played a little over half of the defensive snaps this season and about the same on special teams. But, that’s been enough for him to showcase the kind of playmaker he could be as a full-time starter. Surprisingly enough, it’s not going unnoticed.

Sorry, the Dallas Jerry's are planning on converting him as a punter. We will likely draft a dwarf undernourished CB and convert him to safety.

As much as I like Donovan Wilson making plays.. I’ve also watched him via All22 give up a couple TDs bc he misread the play and was out of position. Just keeping it real

This coming from a huge fan of Wilson and I’ve been advocating he have a chance to play more.

.. but let’s not drool too much. Give credit where credit is do, but he still has his flaws and has a lot to learn. Of course, if your the type to only talk about his splash plays and never about his undisciplined coverage.. go right ahead.

Hell, he's made it IMO. Certainly appears the so-called light has come on. He's my 2021 starting SS. Sign a mid-level FS and we're good.
Midlevel? Sad thing is jerry probably agrees yet he will say hed do anything for another ring smh. Sign marcus maye to what hes worth.

Jeff Cavanaugh says he can't cover.

Made a pretty good read and break on the football for that interception.

Wilson is more of a downhill player, but has excellent instincts/physicality for the position. Where he gets in trouble, like many other is when his back is turned to the QB.

Considering he went thru somewhat 3 coaches, and has only 2 seasons under his belt on the field, I'd say he's slowly putting it together. Not that I think he's a giant game changer. He's at least valuable enough for a resign amidst a defense that needs a lot of gaps filled.
