Did Dalton play himself into a starter contract?

What’s your drug of choice for keeping Dak at a stupid price?

Im not for paying Dak stupid money either, but I’m not going to lie to myself to make myself think that the Dalton option is just as good as the Dak option. Jerry is almost 80 years old. Do you really think he will go with the lesser player for a rebuild? Because that’s what your declaring if you go with Dalton next year. A rebuild. You have to be high on something POTENT if you think other wise. The Cowboys can’t play the Eagles and Bengals every game next year.

That opportunity isn’t an option with Dak or AD. The problem is he’s been doing the same dance for years with no success.

He isn’t even a lousy GM. Any other would have rebuilt long ago. He’s been buying and over paying over the hill old talent to take short cuts. How’s that been working out?

Stephen needs to stop the insanity and take over. The right call is to lose Dak, and draft a team. You can’t buy one

I’m not sure. Looks like we may have 5 first round qbs drafted. Gardner menshew likely available, tyrod Taylor, Winston, trubisky, fitzmagic, brissett all set to be free agents. Not sure how many qb openings we see this year but there will be a ton of competition
None of those are worth a look see, unless they can play tight end.

The problem is, what your suggesting isn’t happening. Cowboys are not going into rebuild mode. Especially with being knocked out of prime time this year (with the Niners game). Jerry and Stephen went with the retread coach for a reason. There are plenty of excuses for them to use to explain why this season didn’t go as planned. Dak will be signed to a one year deal to “prove” himself next year (or he will get his extension) and Dalton will maybe get signed back to play second fiddle if the money is right. End of story. That’s it. There is no conspiracy or M. Night Shyamalan twist going to take place here. This is easy.

We’ll find out in a few months.

I see Dak and Dalton as Similar QBs. They are both good enough to win if they have the tools around them to do so. Neither can carry the team on their own. Dalton throws a better ball and hits receivers in stride. Dak is younger and more mobile. The problem both of them present is that they both need a team around them to win games. Its not an easy decision. I think you go with Dalton.

You take Dak for the long term, which really isn't that long because he wants a 4 year deal and this contract and the next are going to cripple the Cowboys cap. You wont be able to get the players you need to win consistently. Sure you will win some games and make the playoffs here and there, but no long term consistent success. Daks biggest drawback is that he just can't carry a team by himself. We all saw what he looked like without Amari Cooper, he was terrible. His contract is crippling. I am sure he is a good guy and loved in the locker room and he brings good leadership. But at the contract amount he is demanding It is just not enough. If Dak dropped his demands to 20 mil a year, I would say take him, but at 35+ its just too much. I don't think he should drop his demands.

Dalton is good enough to carry the team for 3 to 4 years plus you can assemble a good cast around him on both offense and defense, he gives you better consistency because you can afford more talent on the team. You can draft a new QB and give him 2 years to get ready.

Dalton won with a lesser team than what supper stats prescott had at the first of the year. let's hear the excuses, since dalton is so much worse than super stats.
one win on a lucky watermelon kick and the other credited win he didn't even finish the game.
go

Andy Dalton seems to be on a good streak this Kellen gun offense and 3 game win streak ,, seem like he's gain great confidence and rhythm en route to big plays in pass game

this could make him look more attractive in the FA market .. teams like the Pats, ..or Washington that could have really used him

His age (33 yrs) will be something going against him long term. but i could see Pats signing him as a stopgap starter until a a grooming young buck draftee is ready to take the wheels

He's like a Ryan Fitzpatrick

:D
I think its become possible we get a comp 3rd for him again. I think he might possibly be looked at as a stop gap starter for a team that might miss out on day 1 starters in the draft. I can see him landing a 1 year deal worth 15-17

If we gets to the playoffs, Dalton may have an advantage on alot of those guys for a team looking for a band aide at QB. Especially if the team is looking to draft and sit a long term option, his age may be a positive. In a situation like that, Fitzpatrick is likely the only better option

You sound pretty certain of that. He’s not worth his asking price. I’m very glad you aren’t part of the FO.

My point was and is pretty clear. If they were enamored with Dak, he’d have been signed before the season started. What don’t you get?
They offered him a big contract and he didnt take it. You think they offer him that if they dont want him back?

He will get a bigger contract, but unless there is a deep playoff run, I do not see another team hanging their future on him
Many fans here rubber-stamping the notion Dalton will be a starter for an NFL team next year.
Who needs \ wants Andy Dalton- let's go down the list:
NFC East - no
NFC North - Bears? Not if the Bears make the playoffs
NFC South - no
NFC West - no
AFC East - Patriots?
AFC North - no
AFC South- no
AFC West - Broncos?
