I think it could be less, but not eliminated entirely. Mini-camp shortly after the draft makes sense to me, with the new players.

If they skip the rest until training camp I don't see a problem, especially if they play some preseason games.

not sure if this is a good or a bad thing... I think it’s good for teams to get the extra prep work in.

if the level of tackling this year is any evidence I'd say that it was a really really bad idea.

The quality of play especially early in the year has gone down significantly since they reduced practice the last time.

Do your job should be more meaningful to these guys.

Time to reduce these insane salaries. If they’re only working 5-6 months per year, they don’t need to be paid so highly.
agree, but its all revenue related so that wont happen, especially with an added game to the schedule.

Dont like this at all. Just look at how sloppy play was early this year. Half the league was putting up 4 TDs a week. Plus you see increase in injuries every year we see less offseason work put in. Also really hurts younger players, rookies, anyone changing teams, and guys on the roster bubble. This is good news for established vets only.

It's a different world.

Players today are so soft. It's all about the money.

or it could be they are worried about their long term health. The league has shown they do not care about the players once they can no longer help them win a game so the union is doing exactly what a union is supposed to do.

and its always been about the money. That is why in 87 selfish players like joe montana, danny white, randy white etc..crossed the picket line because they wanted their big salaries and didn't care about the players making less.

Gee, players want less wear and tear to prolong careers. How selfish
Then don't agree to an expanded season. They don't seem to care about prolonging careers when you dangle an extra game check. Good chance this actually shortens careers. This is great news for established vets with guaranteed contracts, bad news for the other 75% of players.

lol. I bet you are one of the people who says this about teachers also.

When the owners give up their insane profit then get back to me about the players. Tickets, parking, concessions etc...go up every year. The league was better when billionaires were not the owners of the teams.

safety is more relevant in contact drills

if these guys are talking about cross training, strength and conditioning during them it’s not about safety....

they have already substantially reduced the contact to protect them more.

that is going to happen no matter what. this is an offensive league. The nfl has transformed into college football. The lousy kind like the big 12 where all the offenses are spread and they throw the ball 50 times every game. The league wants wr and db's as the focal point and that is what they have transitioned to the last 5 years or so.

They want their $60M, $80M, $150M or $300M without working for it. Why not? It's a great gig if you are good enough to do it I guess.
They are going the way of basketball, which I tuned out a while ago.
I do agree with the poster that there would be negative unintended consequences. More injuries instead of less.
I think it would hurt the overall product, especially September and October.
Whatever they want I guess. I'm losing interest anyway.

That's why I no longer spend money on the NFL.
