I dont think it's about Moore himself as opposed to the situation feeling similar to the one of Garrett...which people arent going to line up to repeat.

Some on here have it nailed, and I dont buy for a second that keeping Moore wasnt a prerequisite for MM. Jerry can say he asked for him all he likes, but it's fairly clear now that MM simply told Jerry what he wanted to hear.

The MM/Moore combo never made a whole lot of sense to me otherwise.

The coordinator positions are critical to McCarthy's success. McCarthy picked his entire coaching staff with the exception of Moore and Lett whom he chose to remain with the team. This was a practical decision by McCarthy to retain Moore and not to please Jerry or Stephen for that matter. McCarthy has confirmed multiple times to the media why he chose to retain Moore.

I wasn't a big fan of Moore becoming offensive coordinator, detested him as one of our starting quarterbacks, but I think he has a bright future with our team. I think McCarthy and Moore make for a great offensive partnership.

Big Mike didn’t get a say concerning Moore.

Mike isn’t the GM.

he did talk Jerry into hiring Nolan and Philbin....

The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the team announced Saturday.

With his new deal, Moore won't pursue an opportunity to become the next head coach at Boise State - his alma mater. The 32-year-old was viewed as a favorite to lead the Broncos after Auburn hired Bryan Harsin in December.

"We are building something special here in Dallas," Moore said in a statement. "I am thankful to the Jones family and Mike McCarthy for providing me the opportunity to coach these special players. I am excited for us to put it all together and finish the job."

Dallas ranks 12th in total offense and 16th in point per game this season under its young assistant despite losing several key players to injuries.

Quarterback Dak Prescott led the league in passing yards before suffering a compound fracture and dislocation in his right ankle in Week 5.

Moore joined the Cowboys in 2018 as quarterbacks coach, and the club promoted him to offensive coordinator the following year. Head coach Mike McCarthy kept him on staff when the franchise hired the veteran sideline boss in 2020.

McCarthy is also expected to retain his job regardless of whether Dallas qualifies for the postseason in Week 17.
Good. We let too many good young coaches leave during the Garrett decade of demoralizing destruction.

KMoore executed this power move perfectly.

well done.

he’s gained more power inside the organization, more money, and leverage.

the incoming offensive coaches could be Kellen’s picks.

Here's hoping year 3 KM can figure out the redzone & get this offense cooking out of the coin toss.

yup.

the red zone/short yardage run blocking is a disaster.

we need a lead FB.

ditch the shotgun/ pistol trap plays. They don’t work.

McCarthy got to pick just about his entire coaching staff. That has been established. He brought in Rob Davis as the assistant head coach, Fassel as the special teams coach, all the position coaches except Lett. Tomsula, Nussmeier, Wells, Linguist, Peete, Henry, etc.. want me to keep going because there is at least a dozen more.

yup.

he did.

and Jerry hired everyone of them.

unfortunately ... (Big Mike talked Jerry into hiring Nolan)

but we are not Seattle. The HC in Dallas isn’t the GM.

this is why KMoore stayed. (And Philbin isn’t the OC)

He would not have been resigned unless McCarthy wanted him back. He has been a very successful play caller and play designer, but any call that isn’t what fans think is best is a bad call. You have to be perfect in Dallas, and every call must anticipate and work against the defensive call. The opponent DC must never win a play or series....very tough crowd....with short memories regarding the coaches who won SBs here.
Chuck you may be right about McCarthy being ok with having KM back. My question is how do we know that? With JJs history of forcing people on his head coaches, how do we know this isn’t another example of what Jerry did to Wade Phillips by forcing Jason Garrett on him? I hope you’re right.

Kellen was made OC after one year of coaching experience lol, and that doesnt happen anywhere but dallas.
He doesnt understand or value the run game, he wants to pass pass pass.
His run blocking schemes are awful, and the run stats are always ignored, people just look at passing stats.
Dallas had the # 1 offense at first of year, but were 1-3 and should have been 0-4 but people just ignore that and want to talk about the 500 yds passing.
Blame has been put on elliot and the OL, but to me it is more on kellen.
He should be passing game coordinator, not OC.
Did you forget that in those four games the defense was awful?

36.5 ppg
430 ypg
1 forced turnover

How can that be laid at the feet of the offense?

And, since you want to talk about the running game, how is it even remotely possible to establish or maintain the rush when your defense is getting blown off the field and the opposing team is scoring at will?

Did you watch those games?

McCarthy has said he had targeted Moore for his staff for any team he went to.

When he was up in that barn of his in Green Bay during the 2019 season planning his NFL return he had already decided he was going to approach Moore about a job with his staff.

It was his plan before he ever interviewed for the Cowboys.

we all like to say coaches do what Jerry tells them to do, but on this one people are wrong

Also, McCarthy is a bit of a stubborn jackass. He’s got a lot more Parcells and Jimmy in him than he does Garrett. People are missing on that.

“Kellen was someone I was watching from afar, regardless of what opportunity worked out for myself,'' the coach said. "The opportunity to work with Kellen was something I was going to pursue either way.”
