How much would Surtain and Moehrig improve the D?

Assuming there’s no huge addition to the front 7, besides maybe a healthy McCoy, how much better is this D with Surtain at 10 and Moehrig at 44

Secondary would have 4 real starters for the first time in ages. Run D would still be an issue and the pass D would all be manned by young guys aside from Brown in the nickel.

It will help but I don't think that Moehring makes it to us at 44. I would love him to but I think we have to trade up if we want him. I would not mind his running mate at TCU in Washington but in the 4th.

Safeties always go lower then they are rated. McKinney and Delpit were rested top 20 and both went in the 2nd round. Year before that Thornhill, Adderley and Rapp were all rated to be gone before Dallas pick.... yet they were still on the board

I hope you are right but every time I like player he is always picked ahead of us. I don't want to get my hopes up and have them squash.

Rookie DBs usually struggle in year 1 so not a huge immediate impact.

I think they’ll help in the long term but hoping we don’t ignore the run D.

It's the position not the player. I'm not saying he will make it to 44 but safeties almost always go lower then they are rated

They haven’t even set foot on an NFL field, there are are plenty of busts every year, there are no guarantees how good or bad either player will be so to answer the question... no one knows.

Trying to fix a defense that was 2nd worst Vs the run and 20th in sacks with a CB and FS is like trying to dam the Mississippi River with toothpicks...not saying they aren’t good prospects, but unless legit free agents are signed (lol at that thought) for the front 7 the D will be no better.

This would be my dream top two picks. Everyone is clamoring for dline picks, but where Dallas is picking in the first it's not good value. And, Moerhing anywhere in the second is tremendous value.

Our D-Line improved throughout the year. Slowly but it did Improve.

If we sign Dalvin Tomlinson or Leonard Williams in Free Agency. Plus draft a Huge Run stopping 1T in the 3rd round. The Defense would be on the right track to becoming a Force!

DE - Lawrence
3T - Hill/Gallimore
1T - Williams/Tomlinson/Draft
DE - Gregory?
LB - Smith/Lee
MLB - LVE
CB - Surtain
Slot - Brown/Lewis/Awuzie/Draft/ ???
FS - Moehrig
SS - Wilson
CB - Diggs

Side Note; I’d Love to pick up Patrick Peterson in Free Agency if possible. He could tutor our young CB’s and also play while they grow/improve.

Todd McShay said during the Notre Dane game that Surtain is the most Technical/Fundamentally sound CB he has ever seen in his entire life coming out of College...

Sure, if you want to add the caveat of “if we sign a high priced impact DT” I’m on board...but I’ll give that about a 1.3% chance of happening. And we were also 20th in sacks last year. Only 1 team that finished below us in sacks made the playoffs (Titans). So if that doesn’t improve as well it won’t matter how good the secondary is.
