What I saw today was two teams that were able to contain a ground game, play extra men in coverage and frustrate two future, hall of fame QB's. The difference was Tampa Bay was able to generate consistent pressure with their front four, where Green Bay could not. It's that simple, win the trenches, win the game!

Certainly it doesn't help when you have a bonehead HC not going for it down 8 late in the game inside the 10 nor a CB who has no understanding of time getting beat beat at the end of the half.

I don't want to hear people complain when the team doesn't make the exciting, wow pick at 10 this year and takes another offensive lineman or defensive lineman in rd 1 and a two down run DT in rd two. Someone said recently, can you name the starting secondary for the Washington Football Team? Not many can and they are one of the best defenses in the entire league due to their front 4.
Yep! The '85 Bears had a chimpanzee at QB and still won it all. 75 sacks will fo that for you.

Nope.

1. QB in aggressive in creative bold scheme
2. Playmakers, esp. at WR
3. Defenders to stop opposing QB and playmakers
4. Everything else

Tampa Bay has best wide receiver group in NFC. Chiefs have best 1-2 playmaker duo of decade.

Andy Reid is pass, centric...willing to go for fourth down.
Arians is most down-field risk taker in sport
You listen way too much to Jerry. Seriously, how do you not notice that 2 and 3 are rendered irrelevant by topnotch trenches? Strange stuff.

Never bother to listen to Jerry at all. Do study along with folks like Chris Simms shows, Football Outsiders, PFF, Bret Kollmann, etc.

Where are your big trench teams? Rams were #1 defense...how'd that work out w/Green Bay? Oh, they gave up 484 yards and 32 points? So that's your idea of rendering an offense irrelevant?

"Win the trenches and you can win in any era"

That's not true, you can win in the trenches all you want but if you still have Doogie Howser for a QB, you aren't winning crap.

Brady drove the bus.

You don't seem to know how Arians and Brady work the offense. Tom is the *furthest* thing from a bus driver in the NFL. Complete opposite of dink and dunk. Same was true in Green Bay game. Brady was throwing *down *the *field.

KC won the Super Bowl in '19 and might win it again. Are they dominant in the trenches? Their offensive line this year featured two 7th round picks, two undrafted free agents and a guy the claimed when Pittsburgh waived him in November!

Watch Mahomes 2020 highlights. For almost all the plays one of 3 things happens:
-He gets the ball out ultra-fast
-He rolls or scrambles before passing
-He leverages Andy Reid deception

QB, play-makers and scheme makes the Chiefs offense roll--absolutely not great line play.

KC isnt the best analogy to use when looking at the OP, as they have Mahomes. In the main he's right you win the trenches you win the battle, unless you have a QB that can handle a single rusher and possibly improves when pressured.

If the OP was alluding to what we need to focus on, I agree, D-Line that stops the run, make the opposition throw rather than giving them the easy 5 yard gain nearly every running play and upgrade on O-line backup to create a running game and protect Dak.

So, you don't know who Vita Vea is? Derek Nnadi?

Bad conclusion. No one has said that all it takes is strong trenches. KC focuses on the trenches in the draft all the time.

Yes they are dominant in the trenches.

Trench ratings:

KC: 6
TB: 9

QB is the most important position by far, no one is disputing that.

The Chiefs playmakers are made even more potent due to the trenches. And poor trench play negates the skill players.

Are you by chance a FF player?

It's close to impossible to have a dominant defense anymore.

The rules prevent it and it isn't what the owners want.

Fantasy football has been lining their pockets like never before.

Its not the brand of the game I prefer, but its here to stay.

Green Bay did well on defense, just didn't pressure Brady enough in the passing game as Tampa did against Rodgers.

Giving up 31 points including a boneheaded fly route by CB Kevin King for a TD.. with only seconds left in 1st half is not my idea of .. " Green Bay did well on defense "

Outside of Winfield Jr., nobody even knows the names in Tampa's secondary. The same thing can be said about the Chiefs and the Honey Badger.

You mean Cowboys fans won't know... or have any idea who Juan Thornhill or Charvus Ward are …..?? :p
