Last year was not relevant to the Mahomes extension because it had not kicked yet (he was still on year 4 of his rookie deal and the 5th year option is next year). As for the contract itself Mahomes took the equivalent of a fully guaranteed contract (because of how its structured) that pays him 45m per year and will 100% have to be extended 5 years in. That is not THAT much of a discount considering the guarantees he has.

As for Brady, he is not the breadwinner in that house. His wife makes more than he could get playing football by a significant margin.

I could be wrong but, here is my shot at it. Dak is not Mahomes talented and he knows it. The market is what it is. This may be his shot a getting payed.

Mahomes has "it" in spades. Dak does not posses that trait but, he is capable of wining if you put talent around him. There inlays the problem because of the reduced cap and his 36-40 mil cap he would take up.

We have a pie people. How many slices can you manage to get out of it to win the slice challenge? If someone in this God for saken franchise is smart enough to figure it out, we win. Until then grow thicker skin!

I don't recall Dak holding the team hostage during his rookie deal and heading to Cabo then returning unfit to play.
