It's a salary dump. Happens in the NBA all of the time but the Rams are a little too generous with their draft picks.
I get that, but with the dead money, what can they really do w the cap savings?

Nevermind the effect of no cheap immediate help with first rounders for seven years. No way you don't feel that.

I get going for it....but come on.

I can see if Stafford was a clear and undisputed upgrade, but is he to that degree??

Wow again.

Well I guess those thinking we can't get 2 firsts for dak are wrong....

Yep. Lions won this trade and so did texans.

I would not say that. I think a lot depends on financials and how close a team might be to winning a Super Bowl.

What's it going to be then, eh?

You have to pair this up with the Ramsey trade. It won't sting now but they are going to pay a huge price in the future.
Obviously they just don't value first round picks all that much and are more into getting players who can play now and don't need developmental time.

They have remade their rosters practically every year for the last three years and have made the playoffs twice using mostly free agency.

I'd gladly take that cap hit for those picks. He's on the books for two years if he doesn't pan out. Long term this is great for the Lions and horrific for the Rams. I don't see how they get out of this unless they hire Will McClay.

cap hit AND poor qb. The picks will likely be late firsts. The Rams have a very impressive front office.

Rams obviously thought that they couldn't win a Superbowl with Goff - I have to respect that. Whereas we will most likely bang our heads against the wall with Prescott.

But now they have taken a huge contract burden off of themselves for future seasons
I don't think fans realize the Rams just got out of $43M guaranteed over the next 2 years still owed to Goff, a guy they no longer believed in, and it would appear the Lions made them pay (in draft picks) to do it.

While also making a pretty huge upgrade at Quarterback while they did it.

The Rams will also probably turn around and give Stafford an extension to lower this year's cap # which means they can afford to add pieces.

This is more like an MLB or NBA trade where the team benefits from offloading a bad contract.

I'd hate going that long without first round picks but the Rams appear to be all-in, right or wrong.

I truly wonder who else was offering JUST under what LA paid that made them have to give up so much.

One fool is all it takes.
