We have 3 WRs with #1 potential, one already a proven bona-fide #1 in Cooper. We have a proven full-season starter in Schultz, and we have high-upside Jarwin coming back.

These are probably the two positions, along with QB, that we do not need.

Why are people so obsessed with bringing Pitts in?

Maybe with Pitts we can get to 45 points a game.... and our defense will give up 50.

The worst thing the team can do is draft BPA at need. You need to fix "adequately" whatever major needs before the draft in FA. If the draft board says that Pitts is a future Hall of Famer and he's there. You draft him. You don't want to be sitting there 10 years from now saying ,yeah that Kyle Pitts is going in the hall of fame, but my corner I Drafted instead, he lasted 5 years, did OK.... If you end up with Pitts you deal with the extra players later if he upgraded someone. You trade Gallup /other TE's whatever. Deal with the problem later.

You might think it is idiocy but it is really flawed "immediate gratification" logic to think otherwise

I'm against taking anyone that's not on defense especially in that 1st round.........

...that being said.....I don't think I've ever seen a tight end as dominant as Pitts in college.

My only thing is.....with as dominant as guys like Kelce is, as dominant as Kittles is....these great tight ends in the NFL aren't 1st round picks. Waller wasn't either.

If its a offensive pick then give me Pitts.

I need defense and I need playmakers on defense and I don't know how to get them outside of the draft.

I have a hard time visualizing the Cowboys drafting Pitts. I think the guy is tremendous value but he's a hard player to gauge. Not only do we have 3 wideouts and Jarwin but Pitts can't block that well. If Pitts was an elite blocking TE and with his catch and route running skill set then I would say draft him. However, he's not going to help us in the run game, so it's a PASS for me.

Also, TE's should never be taken top 10. Has Hockenson turned Detroit into contenders?

George Kittle 5th round draft pick

Travis Kelce 3rd round draft pick

Antonio Gates Undrafted Free Agent

Jason Witten 3rd round draft pick

Jimmy Graham 3rd round draft pick

I get that logic generally, but I think there are exceptions, and this looks like one of them.

If we are in that situation, trading down seems like a good way to get extra ammo to rebuild this joke of a defense

You take a hall of fame level player (if you think he is), use the rest of the draft on defense and then add a couple GOOD Free Agents on defense to fix major issues. Not sure how it will work out but with a #10 pick if there is a blue chip player you take him. Anything other than QB I'd do it. Hell I might do it if a QB was there too and couldn't get proper trade value.

Let's be honest, Gallup is not a #1 receiver no matter how many times Jerry Jones pays to have that message broadcast into your brain. This is also probably his last year in Dallas.

Pitts can completely change the game. You'd be crazy to pass up a guy that no one can cover just to take one of the guys who couldn't cover him. Think about it.

People generally have a fantasy football mindset, not realizing there's only one football.

All the top 10 tight ends I can think of offhand weren't exactly the "matchup nightmare" in the NFL that they were cracked up to be.

Really, that position shouldn't be drafted exceptionally high.

Happens every year that draft picks are considered foregone conclusions to not bust or under achieve in the NFL when history shows quite the opposite.

Every draftee is a "plug and play" at this time of year because people want them to be.

The examples are endless.

Pitts looks like an insane talent.

But I agree that having him and all three of our WRs would be like taking sand to the beach.
You could never get full value out of all 4....not enough downs in a game or balls to go around.
The Law of Diminishing Returns would be in full effect.

So....
I say if we took Pitts we would have to trade either Cooper or Gallup

Gallup is as good as gone I would think.

If you draft Pitts, you can move Jarwin / Shultz.

Though I doubt you would get much more than a 3.

My thoughts too.

I know Evan Engram isn't the prospect Pitts is, but he's in the same mold. TE with WR athletics/mismatch galore.
Really hasn't blown anyone away yet.
TJ Hockenson was meh his rookie year. Better year 2, but I can't say he was BPA when taken.
Eric Ebron was a disappointment for the Lions and has bounced around
Eifert is the ultimate what if due to injuries.
Even Vernon Davis was a disappointment before Singletary shaped him up.

I rather go Slater over Pitts though if we are stuck between the two.

Would not shock me Pitts or OL. Jerry got to prop up the 40 million dollar man. Oh and we all know offense sells more jerseys.

I actually looked over this list of tight ends in the 1st round......if I'm not mistaken I think I came up with Tony Gonzales being the last one that lived up to his 1st round status.

Two guys that I guess may be debatable on the issue are Vernon Davis and Eric Ebron. Ebron is a mess....stats aren't terrible but man....then there's Vernon Davis which to me never lived up to his potential.....

Then there's Kittle, Waller and Kelce.....Three of the best tight ends in the league..none are first round picks.

Even if we look at what our own guys like Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz did in comparison to 1st round picks like OJ Howard and NJoku?

Love Pitts but man.....its best to invest in tight end later it seems than earlier.

Thing is.. If we can't block the entire show stops.

Our once great OL is trending down very quickly if you haven't noticed as well.
