TE is NOT a position of need for this team.
i wouldn't mind adding one of the broncos young f/a te's to this group,tho...
jake butt or troy fumagali.
i liked both in college.
we met with butt at the sr bowl or combine...can't remember.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we sign Clowney to replace Aldon.
nice thought but that dude is all about $$$$$$$$$ he wont take huge discount that AS took..AS with long offseason and some advice from his coaches and friends he could be improved this year..he a great athlete and very in GYM shape but he was out over 4 years and you cant just be ready to play 16 games at the level he played at the first four..i believe he could be far more consistent this season..hopefully used less with RG and DLaw playing far more snaps and AS being the rotational and rush package kind of player..

I think we are all wrong here about Jerry. They do change their plans in FA.

This year, they just signed a guy on the 2nd day of FA that normally they'd sign 3 weeks after the start of FA. So kudos, Jerry, for hopping on this JAG bag of a DT early!

Prepared to be dazzled. Our FAs over the last 5 years:

2016

Cedric Thornton
Benson Mayowa
Alfred Morris
Joe Looney

Sadly, this might the best FA haul of the last 5 years

2017

Nolan Carroll
Byron Bell
Stephen Paea
Damontre Moore
Jonathon Cooper

2018

Allen Hurns
Deonte Thompson
Cam Fleming
Marcus Martin
Joe Thomas

2019

Randall Cobb
Kerry Hyder
Christian Covington

2020

Andy Dalton
Blake Bell
Cam Erving
Everson Griffen
Aldon Smith
Dontari Poe
Gerald McCoy
Maurice Canady
Brandon Carr
Daryl Worley
HaHa Clinton Dix
Greg Zuerlein

That's quite the list. I'd argue that in the last 5 years, we landed only two impact FAs - Cobb and Zuerlein. Aldon Smith was decent. But man, the vast majority are total, unadulterated wash outs.

And our response to these failures? Do the same thing again. LOL.

The funniest part is I guarantee you could go back every year and find an “I told you so” thread gloating how smart the signings were after all of us normal fans spent the off season complaining.

Why would any FA’s even want to come here? We pay NO one except our drafted players.

They have to be cheap in FA so they can overspend on the players Jerry drafted and has formed a personal relationship with.

Its absolutely true that every team has serious misses when it comes to the draft.

Thats why counting on it as a sole means of acquiring talent is ridiculous.
first off this narrative gets old, the bought in players that had a lot of fans expected more from as the FO did..i mean they may have been bargain FAs ie haha, Poe, Mccoy, Griffin , and Asmith..it didn't pan out but they didnt 'solely' rely on the draft..you have tio use the draft more when you are up against the cap..all teams cut Vets and dont being in elite FAS i mean how many Elite FAS are available and how many work out?

who truly saw all of them gone by the BYE? its also possible they didnt work out because nolan tried forcing them into his scheme, getting rid of them may have bee very premature and if a dover w done with different DC and the same FA class, chances are they would have worked out..

all teams build their roster through all sources and they must sign the same type of players to churn Sts, rotational guys and simply depth..hopefully having RG all 16 games will make huge difference on the DL it will help Dlaw, AS wont be worn out and the young guys rotate..

hopefully we get a quality FA or some great draft picks to fill out the defense..all we truly need with our offense clicking is a mid level of the pack defense instead of bottom 5 to 15-17 and play more solid , we can win a lot of gs with that..Diggs should be improved and im betting Quinn gets ore out of LVE and JS..

How does it get old? It's true.

Dallas thinks they can build a championship football team through the draft and then signing some warm roster bodies in FA. It hasn't worked. They haven't even built a consistent winning team, let alone a championship team this way.

And they keep doubling down on the strategy despite no positive results. It's bizarre.

I totally understand why us Cowboy fans are very disappointed in FA this far. But I truly believe in the process. I cannot believe our defense is as bad as it showed last season. I simply think it was a defensive coordinator not playing to the strength of the personnel he had. How is is with Rod Marinelli and Kris Richard we had a competent defense that although they struggled against the run were not as bad as last season?

We go out and add players like Aldon Smith, Everson Griffen, Poe, HaHa and McCoy and we are worse? All those players were ranked higher then anything Marinelli and Richard had in their defenses just the year prior.

Simply put, Nolan ruined our defense. I believe Quinn will be more vocal and more of a coordinator and that alone will make the defense better even if we dont add anything in FA.

Players like LVE, Smith, DLaw, Gregory, Diggs, Wilson, Lewis and Brown are not scrubs. They are above average football players that were asked to play out of their comfort zone. Quinn will play to their strengths. Our D after draft and going into next season will be just fine.
