I dont get why I keep reading we only have a 3 year window with Prescott. Its a 4 year contract and we will resign him if he plays well. The 3 year window claim is dumb and untrue.

Because his cap number jumps in year 3 and year 4 it takes another big jump. If he plays well then his contract is setup to be extended which will make his cap hit more manageable. Some are hoping he does not play well and Dallas moves on from him sometime during year 3 or 4.

Well for starters, I was hoping they'd do more than just "fill out the defensive roster". I was hoping they'd try to really improve at least one clear hole on defense prior the draft. They decided, again, to not go that route. Instead we'll bargain shop in a week and then hope the draft lands us a windfall.

But ask yourself this question. For the last 5-6 years the Cowboys have largely had good offenses and suspect defenses. They have had clear holes at S and DT. And for the last 5-6 years, they've done the same thing they are doing this year - ignore a player that might have a big impact because he's too expensive, sift through the slop next week for some low cost warm bodies and then hope the draft is chock full of big wins for them.

How has that worked out for the team? What has that "plan" won them?
I get it they need to sign better free agents. I just don’t see how we could have been better signing an over the hill cornerback looking for a pay day or a defensive tackle who can only stop the run but wants 11 million. Let’s let the offseason play out. They can make trades like they did with Quinn a few years ago.

I wish we had some people in the media with balls in this town that would not take Stephen's eventual bullspit that he'll spew in a few weeks when discussing FA.

They keep going the cheap route in FA and it burns them over and over. I wish a reporter would list off their FA signings over the last 5 years and ask Stephen to explain how it is possible they could be so bad at this and why they keep doing it this way.

Blah, blah, blah.

How many times are you going to get burned by the comment, "hey guys, let the offseason play out" as if somehow, someway this year is going to be different going the same cheap route they always go.

I mean they literally just signed a warm bodied bum at DT. You think that's gonna improve the team?

Me personally, while I think he is a good player, he's not worth the contract. I look at him as another Clowney. Good not Great. 20 mil a year for 5 to 6 sacks and good run defense isn't worth it in my opinion..

When you compare advanced stats of DE in the entire NFL, DLaw ranks in the top in every category. If your only looking at sacks then that is where you have gone wrong. There is much more value that DLaw brings. Only Joey Bosa has more QB pressures that past 3 seasons then DLaw.

Carlos Watkins 6' 3" 300 pounds
2017 4th round draft pick of Houston Texans

32 Career Games 18 Starts (11 of the starts came in 2020)
74 Tackles 9 TFL's 5 QB Hits 4 Sacks

Games Played by Season:

2017: 9 games
2018: 1 game
2019: 8 games
2020: 14 games

I know some will take the positivity approach because Dallas finally signed someone but this to me looks like another typical Dallas free agent signing that they invest little in hopes of big returns from a rotational guy.

Chris Covington 2.0. Both came from Houston

If you DON’T look at sacks, YOU have gone wrong.

The Texans are changing their DEF philosophy with new Coordinator Lovie Smith. Seem to be switching to more of a Marinelli DEF with smaller tackles

Prepared to be dazzled. Our FAs over the last 5 years:

2016

Cedric Thornton
Benson Mayowa
Alfred Morris
Joe Looney

Sadly, this might the best FA haul of the last 5 years

2017

Nolan Carroll
Byron Bell
Stephen Paea
Damontre Moore
Jonathon Cooper

2018

Allen Hurns
Deonte Thompson
Cam Fleming
Marcus Martin
Joe Thomas

2019

Randall Cobb
Kerry Hyder
Christian Covington

2020

Andy Dalton
Blake Bell
Cam Erving
Everson Griffen
Aldon Smith
Dontari Poe
Gerald McCoy
Maurice Canady
Brandon Carr
Daryl Worley
HaHa Clinton Dix
Greg Zuerlein

That's quite the list. I'd argue that in the last 5 years, we landed only two impact FAs - Cobb and Zuerlein. Aldon Smith was decent. But man, the vast majority are total, unadulterated wash outs.

And our response to these failures? Do the same thing again. LOL.
