Seems like since Carr, during FA all the Jones boys do is sign there own, get ST players and rotational players. They thought do had something last FA year, but Poe was poor and one got hurt and cut the DB before the season started.

LOL. We paid Lewis $5.5 million but King, a better player, goes for $3.5 million.

One can argue there isn't a worse front office in terms of NFL scouting than ours. It's amazing how we often overpay our own guys, misjudge the market on others, etc.
The Titans presumably know King better than the Cowboys and has $5 million more in cap space, yet decided to let him walk for $3.5 million.
And the Chargers know more about the player than anyone and decided not to try to bring him back for a lousy $3.5 million.
I wonder why?

So to be clear. Not signing/going after King is not a big deal because how good can he be if his previous team didn't want him anymore?

However, I am assuming the Cowboys did a decent job today bringing in 3 defensive lineman who their previous teams didn't want?

Makes sense.

Maybe they want to upgrade the CB spot? Maybe they already think they are set at CB and want to save cap space for other moves?

I mean using that logic, I guess the Cowboys really screwed up today signing three DL that their current teams wanted no part of.

No, you misunderstand my meaning.

My point is that Free Agency is a lot like going to a yard sale. You might find something awesome but, like most free agents all you usually get is a waste of time and money.
For, every free agent that really produced, you can point to 25 that busted.

Therefore, I'm not sure why anyone is upset the Cowboys passed over a guy that is so respected by the teams that know him best they didn't bid on a player who signed for $3.5 million.

As for the Cowboys signings, I'm hopeful but, expect very little.

Dallas has no interest in star players with star contracts 8n free agency. They signed a swing OT and DT for the rotation, along with some guys they didn’t want to lose. Before the draft, they will likely sign a middling S, CB, LB, and maybe DE. Then they will add at least one of each in the draft.

Clearly, they are hoping a return to a base defense our players are familiar with, along with A DC who isn’t crazy and has actually run a defense in the modern NFL, along with a few additions will move our defense from the bottom towards the lower middle at least. That, along with a healthy offense should be enough, in their minds, to make a run into the playoffs while also maintaining a few moves that can clear space next year. Under Quinn, they will determine which players can actually excel in this defense and where to spend resources next year.

I’m not saying I don’t wish we would sign at least 1 decent veteran, but anyone who actually thought we would go all in on this season like a few teams have hasn’t been paying attention since we signed CB Carr to a huge FA contract.

Frankly, for all our needs, I’d be happy if we just sign a veteran FS and starting CB so we don’t have to rely on draft picks and live with rookie mistakes this season.
Nailed it!

It's not enough though. A DEF that is in the lower middle will not win you a Super bowl. I would be worried as well (but probably the Joneses have not thought of this) is Quinn's DEF still relevant in the NFL today? People like Michael Lombardi think not. We need a top 10 DEF and not just for one season

Now is the year to go all in and sign against the increase in CAP.

If we plan on taking a gamble and actually sign better than JAG's in Free Agency it's now.

As soon as ALL teams get the increased CAP allowance (due to the CAB) it'll just push up prices and we'll still (at time of writing) be 32nd in CAP availability for the next 3 years.

Signing Neal or Harris to long term contracts and drafting Surtain, Horn or Farley (with Diggs already on board) will mean we could forget about the Secondary for a number of years.

This opportunity wont present itself next year when half of the league have $70m more CAP availability.

Now is the time to go all in.....(I cant believe I wrote that.)

Will players under contract hold out for more money when the new money hits the cap?

I’d expect that some may try, but if I remember correctly, the new CBA makes holdouts more difficult and costly to the players.

Rumors have it that the Cowboys will be signing 2 vet defensive back types. A safety and a possible corner starter.

Lets see.
