Urban is better than any starting DT we had last year. But he still isnt a high end starter. He is stout against the run. Watkins is garbage. Basham is a rotation guy gamble.
Depth has gotten better as well as our run defense. Still need a legit NT and another Edge pass rusher.

I still think they fill that NT need either in fa or the draft.

Hope is the word for me. You need to spend around 8-10 million to get a legit NT. I dont see them doing that. Its also not a deep position in the draft and I dont see them using our first on it. So unless they use the 2nd rounder there I dont see him being effective enough.

It's far deeper for the 1DT then it is for the 3DT.

McNeal, Togaia, Shelvin, Tuipulotu, Wilson-these are all 1 Tech's

Heard on draft show this week Cowboys are interested in Togaia.

Barmore, Shelvin, Wilson are showing as the top 3 1 techs and they have them all in the 46 to 67 overall rankings.

So you are hoping for our 2nd round pick to be used on one of these guys?

The Basham signing is intriguing and I feel he's an under the radar player that can help. The rest classic depth signings that look like JAGs. With that said we have gotten production out of a number of these types of guys over the years. Benson Mayowa, George Selvie, Jeremy Mincey to name a few. Suh is still floating around out there too.

Watkins-I believe he fills that 4T LE role in our base defense. This spot in Quinn's scheme is more like a 3-4 DE that anchors and holds up multiple blockers. He certainly can play a little 1T in a pinch as well.

Urban-another 3-4 Defensive Lineman who has starting experience. Think he fills that Tyrone Crawford Role. Can play inside/outside, known more as a high motor run defender.

Basham-might be the Aldon Smith replacement and an upgrade over Armstrong as the #3 DE. Many think he was not used correctly as a stand up Edge rusher, where he is better suited as a down pass rusher. More of an upside pick.

These are more role player, rotational types that improve our depth. Behind the starters, we either have young prospects or undrafted fa's. These moves were necessary and could make a difference in the long run.

I like all of them. Urban replaces Crawford. He is excellent against the run. A clear upgrade.

Watkins replaces a player that hardly played at all. Watkins actually played for the Texans and he knocked down several passes. I don't think that the Cowboys had any dtackle knock any passes.

I think that Basham forced 4 fumbles in 2020. I don't think that any Cowboy did this.

My thought they signed defensive players so they will go offense in draft Maybe that TE that most know about
They have 10 draft picks and will go BPA. At 10 that might be an offensive player or they can trade back which would give them 6 picks in the top 99. More than half of their picks will be on defense.

Signing quality depth- good

Signing quality depth without having quality starters- not so good
Lawrence is a quality starter and Gregory could be. Hill and Gallimore have a chance to be good and whoever they draft could be good too.

These are the usual place filler slop signings this FO does every year to justify what they did

total garbage

we need 2 starting DTs
Visionary, use your vision and actually look at their plays.

Don't agree with your comment about replacing Smith. Very likely right now that Dallas wants a multi year, affordable deal. At this point, he'd likely prefer a bigger long term deal or the chance to be an free agent again next year.

He's getting a chance to shop himself and establish the market. Doubt he ends up elsewhere. Guys in recovery value stability and are grateful to the team that gave them a chance.

A waste of three roster spots.

Just some random players bereft of any real talent.

You will all want them replaced again before too long.
Really? We certainly can use Urban to stop the run like he has his entire career and could use the 4 fumbles forced by Basham and the blocked passes by Watkins. What's not to like? We could use that production.

Barmore is more of a 3T, he is a better rusher then he is against the run.
