I would give credit for the defensive backfield upgrades, but the middle of that D-line would not hold up against the run at all.

I think you need 2 defensive starters out of this draft.

You have enough draft ammo to move up from 44 and ensure you get that 2nd starter.

Tell me we have added Moehrig or Richie Grant as the starting FS and I feel much better about that defense.

Kazee is your FS. And he's going to start. Now how healthy he stays, that's the big question (or if he actually will get healthy).

I think they can certainly upgrade two spots in the trenches. Williams who will never be a guard, and Hill, who never showed enough to be penciled on as a ‘starter’.
Connor Williams was arguably our best OL last year given injuries.
The issue with him is that if he plays that same way again he will get paid a lot more than we will touch.
He's likely starting and playing well then moving on.

Hill has a profile as a 3rd down pass rusher. He is still no where near strong enough to start inside right now. BUT he is also still a year younger than Neville Gallimore who drafted a year later. Hill just turned 23 yesterday. He is going to end up a stud imho but he doesn't need to start this year.

Serious question to answer ........will the changes on defense be enough? We've added three new players, ( four if you include Gregory). Are they truly upgrades are replacements. In other words, how much of an upgrade is Neal over Joe Thomas at LBer or Kazee over Woods for a team the finished dead last. The bottom line, it appears the FO is saying last year's defensive issues were more Nolan/scheme than talent.

Offense is stacked. Defense is weak in the front 7, secondary is starting to look promising.

Hopefully we get more than one starter in the draft. Either a DT or safety.

If they can get an upgrade at 1T I’ll take that. I think we could be league average with that unit. Hill/Gallimore as your DT starters is scary though. Those two should probably be in a rotation with each other and have a true 1T come in.

I completely agree with that. Playing those two guys would be a disaster. Im hoping we take that 1T with the 2nd or 3rd pick. I wouldnt be opposed to trading back, getting Horn in the middle of the first round and picking up an extra 2nd rounder for our troubles. Then taking 2 of the following 3 with our two 2nd rounders: Safety, DT, LBer.

That’s because they play like individuals and not a team. I still think it’s the scheme which starts with coaching . All the teams take our players and they play well above the level they played here

I can’t recall our players doing well with other teams. Collins and Heath bombed in Oakland. The Chiefs picked up a few but they were the same here except Mahomes/Hill/Kelce’s rising tide lifted them up, not their performance. Brady and the TB offense lit them up. Byron Jones is the same in Miami. Beasley is the same in Buffalo.

Teams just don’t get bang for their buck signing Cowboy FAs. They bring hope with name recognition and sell tickets but really do little on the field.

What's worse than a front office that can't fix problems? A front office they doesn't know there's a problem.

That defense is garbage.

Cant say it isnt getting better with Diggs, Surtain, Wilson in the secondary. Front 7 is still a mess. Cant say they dont know the problems either because most of the guys they have signed in FA are DT's and safeties. They are middling singings, however. Hopefully they address these positions high in the draft as well.

Yup.

we all saw the Nolan train wreck happening...from the day he was hired.

honestly, they let KRichard walk so big Mike could hire his buddy to run the defense.

smart.

hoping Quinn can bring some of that #LegionOfBoom magic back to us.

I don’t know about Quinn and bringing magic. Any high school coach would have looked good with Seattle in its prime. Quinn’s defenses blew chunks in Atlanta. Shanahan and Quinn’s offense got Atlanta to the SB.

I believe it’s a playoff caliber roster outside of defensive tackle.

We still need help there or we’re going to get ran right up the middle again.

Offense will remain top 5 and the secondary is very opportunistic

That D hasn’t changed at all from last season......Smh

What do you mean by this statement? Or, maybe those that are in agreement with you, may be able to shed some light on what you mean.

He's likely starting and playing well then moving on.

The injury thing is a pretty substantial “given”. He looked better by attrition and being the last man standing, not because he was particularly good.

He can be upgraded upon today. And not worry about affording him.

Hill has a profile as a 3rd down pass rusher. He is still no where near strong enough to start inside right now. BUT he is also still a year younger than Neville Gallimore who drafted a year later. I hope you’re right but I have the opposite opinion. He looks like he has no mind for the game and little idea of what he’s supposed to be doing out there. A dog chasing cars.

I’m not as down on the defense as most here are. Quinn is an obvious coaching upgrade and a few new bodies out there were needed. We have an elite run stuffer in Urban, a ballhawk in Kazee, a former pro bowler with Neal.

I still think we are in need of a true 1T to eat blocks. This will allow LVE and Smith to return to form.

Shelvin, McNeill or Bobby Brown III would be an amazing pickup

I agree with the positive outlook. I don't understand the constant whining and complaining. Some fans complain about the current members of the team, draft picks, and FA's. What can the organization do to appease the ire of the fan base?

The ‘ire of the fan base’ comes from 25 years of futility. And they’re not wrong.

I was going by the actual lineup he had. All those players sans Gregory and a safety were the starters last offseason in the front 7 pretty much. Hill and Gally at the 1 and 3 look weak as hell. Hill is coming off an ACL.

The roster is churning and they do seem to be focusing on the defense. We still have a draft class to piecemeal into this mix, so who knows what we'll end up with. It's for certain it will not be the defensive pile of crap we had last season. It may be a whole new pile that doesn't function as we need it to. Or maybe they are onto something. They are trying. The idea is to get better. New DC, OTAs, and a full Training Camp in Oxnard with preseason games sound like they are going to have an honest attempt at putting a real football team together. Maybe even a contender.

If were starting Hill he better take a big step in his game or it's going to be a long season.
