It’s nauseating, I think I may actually vomit after scanning through those names. How anyone can say we’re above average at drafting is beyond me. I’ll give them credit for a few nice pick ups on offense but nothing that makes them “that” much better than most other teams.

They're running off fumes of evaluations from previous years. They did look like geniuses for a while, particularly on offense, but even good on defense too.

2018 was probably Peak Draft Genius, because the defensive picks were looking great too.

Byron made the Pro Bowl. LVE and Jaylon, both health risk picks, looked like a dominant LB duo for years to come. Gregory had played a full season and had 5 sacks in the last 8 games. Woods was our starting FS. Awuzie starts at CB. Lewis looks like a starter (to some). Lawrence had his second double digit sack season in a row.

For a while, the talk was that McClay is a genius. Well, new data is in, and it's not as complimentary. Some people haven't updated on that new data yet.

Last year the defensive picks 2015+ all cratered but Gregory and Tank. Not a lot of sacks, but they're quality DEs. I expect a small improvement this year from everyone else. They're not *that* bad. Coaching matters.

What does?
I think Rockport is the nemesis of many posters here, a role he doesn’t shy away from. They all rent space in each other’s heads.

He certainly has many, many fan posts from those guys. I’m just assuming they all follow each other here.

Whenever I log on to this board or any other cowboy forum, I encounter the disgruntled Cowboys fan. You know the type. The ones that ask the typical disgruntled questions. Why did they sign this guy? Or why didn't they sign this guy? Why did they draft this player. Or why wouldn't they draft this player instead? How could they not win that game? Or why did they bother to win that game?
And not just that. They have to make fun of the fans that are trying to stay positive. Or bring them down to their belief level. If a fan makes a post asking what we need to do in free agency, they will answer with the equivalent of 'what's the use?' Their answers will infer that whatever they do, it will be the wrong thing.
I get it. We haven't won anything in over a quarter of a century. We have a meddlesome owner. We are known as America's Team (worse thing to ever happen to us.) We have an atrocious defense. We paid Zeke. We paid Jaylon. We drafted Taco. Again, we haven't won anything in over a quarter of a century. God knows that there is reason to be disgruntled.
But I choose not to go that path. As do many of the other board members. We know of our challenges and our weaknesses. But we choose to ponder about what we need to do to overcome those challenges and weaknesses. When they sign a mid-tier free agent, we try to figure out how they will use them rather then complain about the fact that they didn't sign a top-tier player.
There are many ways to skin a cat and the Cowboys choose to do if with drafting well, signing second-level free agents and then turning those players into compensatory picks if they choose to leave. Yeah, we have missed on some draft picks but we are one of the best in the league at picking college talent. That's a fact, Jack.
So I ask the disgruntled fans that stay on these forums and others like it. Why? Why continue to be a Cowboys fan if it is so negative and depressing? Isn't it the conventional wisdom to purge things from your life that make you unhappy? I, myself, will not read, listen or watch anything Cowboys related after a tough loss because it hurts to think about it. So I understand the concept of out of sight, out of mind when it comes to the Boys.
Anyway, I know that this post isn't gonna change any minds or mindsets in regards to the Cowboys. And I know that everyone is allowed to be Cowboys fans, including the Negative Nancys in our group. I live in the Philly area so I see the negativity about the Boys every day. So I'm used to it.
Have a good day, y'all, and How bout them Cowboys!!

no we have enough sky is falling fans her already,,please dont be another. This place needs a literal silver lining, pun intended # gosilver&blue!!:flagwave:

Great post. And it’s good to have another “glass half full” member. Not many of us here. Most enjoy just crapping on everything and anything the Cowboys do. It’s all they live for on a daily basis is to come here and hate. Then when you put them in their place they will attack you. That’s when you know you’ve done some good. So don’t get discouraged about the hate you’re going to get. Stay positive because that’s just the right way to be.
It is not "hate". Such a dumb term to use against anyone that questions 25+ years of futility and failure. Questioning failure is not hate. Grow up.

Questioning failure? That’s funny. But you haters just say stuff like that to make yourself feel better.

I think it is possible to question actions of the team without hating on the team. I think I've proven myself to be a loyal and diehard fan of this team. However, there are times when this team makes moves that I can't help but question.

One example is some of the draft choices we've made. No questions from me from the previous draft, but drafting Trystan Hill is one example of a pick that really didn't make much sense, especially when Thornhill was available.

-----Should I be a disgruntled Cowboys fan?

I am being honest, when I say that I'm not even much of a fan in general anymore....the incompetency of Booger and Chuckles has made it almost impossible. I no longer eat, drink, and sleep Cowboys football....I seldom know the next opponent, time, and place until a few days prior....there was a time when I could cite almost the entire schedule to you in advance. I already know that we have no shot at the Super Bowl next year, and Corky as HC installs zero hope or excitement in any bone of my body.....soooooo pathetic that I am actually jealous of teams like the Chargers, Jaguars, and Browns....it is truly sad.

I have been a fan for over 40 years and every year i have high hopes....I go into every year thinking we are going to the playoffs. Last year i would have bet everything i own that we would have beaten the Rams on opening night. For some reason this year is different. I guess i finally have come to the conclusion that winning with Jerry is just about impossible. I will just sit back and enjoy the games and hope somehow we can win in spite of Jerry....GO COWBOYS

Totally agree. They’ve obviously been wrong about not prioritizing the safety and DT positions in the past. Nothing wrong with being critical. It’s the ones who are critical sell the time, every thread and every post that I have the problems with.

Yeah, S and DT need to be addressed. I happen to think that the FO has been at least making decent moves in FA. Would like a few more pieces, and really need S and DT to be addressed in the draft. However, overall, I'd say this FO has had an average/slightly above average offseason. Improved so far over the last few offseasons, and managing to extend Dak make this offseason a strong one.

As for the ones who are critical practically every thread, I hear you there. I do think most of them are Cowboys fans. Tbh, it is kind of hard to be positive. I'm a generally positive person, but it can be a bit, well, almost like a hamster wheel at some points (and I would've been in that if we hadn't extended Dak). As someone who's never tasted success from the Cowboys, I certainly understand the hamster wheel feeling. However, a new season is always excited. We never know what'll happen.
