If you watch them play, any one of them, you'll see they are mostly in reactive mode. The play starts and they hesitate and wait for a second to decide what to do. It's like they were going through a series of options on what they should do when they should be reacting instinctively. That's all on Nolan. Thank God he's gone and maybe they can get back to playing like they did before.

Vander Esch showed some real signs of being special and I still have hope for him but Smith never has been special. He's supposed to make the most tackles and preferably more for a loss instead of being the LB to lead the league in tackles for gain.

No question the scheme of the DC affects the LB's probably more than any other position on the D so we'll see if Quinn can help them.

Most, if not all the LBs looked like they were trying to think about what they needed to do while trying to do it.

Lawrence and Griffen didn't look fully comfortable standing up IMO.

The DTs were getting crushed inside.

Aldon Smith was the only one who seemed like a fit up front.

I realize Nolan was MMs buddy, but it concerns me that he couldn't see the personnel didn't fit the scheme.

Maybe it ends up being a blessing since Quinn was not available last offseason.

We shall see.

MM probably saw it but wanted to give Nolan as much latitude as possible. If so, big mistake on his part. But we really don't know.

I think that’s an unfair assessment of Jaylon, he’s played behind a terrible defensive line and has to clean up their crap. If the Dline could stop the run, we would be singing a different tune when it comes to Jaylon.

I agree and it doesn't help that they had to take on olineman alot because our dline was ineffective!. A new coach should make them better along with better line. They were pretty good with Marinelli LVEs rookie year

LB did a lot of over pursing, guys need to show more discipline flowing down the line of scrimmage and not allow big cut back lanes

We can all agree that it was the worst possible off season of all time to attempt to install a complicated defense, but no one could have seen that coming.

I'm not sure it would have mattered and may have been a long run blessing.

with the 10th pick of the 2021 nfl draft the dallas cowboys select from Penn state LB "Micah Parsons" and then I want to hear that they trade up to get Horn
Only way to trade back into the first round is to trade next years first round pick.

Yes Nolan should be gone, but Nolan wasn't the inferior DL that couldnt keep the OL off the LBs.
They twitched because they were expecting to be blown up at any fraction of a second.
Inferior DL play has compromised any concept of a healthy LB core for a very long time now,,
Sean Lee would be first to testify.

It wasn’t all on Nolan. Jaylon has been this way since he stepped on the field here. He’s just not instinctive.

ONLY way I do that is if they are able to draft Pitts at 10 and trade Gallup for at least a 2nd this year. Especially with the top end talent at our weakness - CB/LB/DT

Pitts w/ 10
Horn/Newsome/Collins/Moehrig w/ 2nd 1st (Next years 1st, our 3rd and 5th or 6th rounder)
Stokes/Grant with our 2nd
Nixon/McNeil with trade for Gallup
Eichenberg/Little/Shelvin with comp 3rd

The rest would be gravy

Jaylon and LVE had questions to answer coming into the season, and both seemed to get worse. Give Nolan his blame, but those LBs weren't tearing up the league. It would be smart to add a KJ Wright and/or draft some LBs.

I actually would be ok with that but these newer mocks have Horn going higher than he was early on so skip the trade up we could probably grab a CB in second round without any issue. i would really want to see our LB corps improved. I think Parsons improves our LB corps more than surtain does our CB not that he wouldnt be a good pick because he would but man our LBs suck. Now if the cowboys do something unexpected like sign wright than i say pick Surtain and go after a LB later

I personally have Parsons in the 17-20 range and it wouldn't shock me if Horn went before him.

Having a good / great line that generates penetration will improve the LB play. It's only natural however that only goes so far

Jaylon...Might arguably be the dumbest no instinct LB in football, runs like he has a diaper fool of poo
LVE...One good hit away from ending his career and seems to play scared now. Can't stay healthy

We badly need to move on from both asap
