Brugler has Pitts #2 overall behind Lawrence

He’s that good

His top three defensive players are

Surtain - 10
Parsons - 12
Horn - 14

I’m fine with Surtain or Horn but if Pitts is there are ten, I take him and trade Gallup for a 2nd and then take a CB, Safety, LB and DT with the four picks we would have in rounds 2 and 3

Implies, not infers.

I'm on Team Trade Down. We have so many needs, and the top defensive players just aren't a thrill to me. I don't like huge spend on CBs or LBs.

Trade down for 10, straight up, are two late-round 1sts. A 10 is a *lot* of value. Don't spend it for just a good player. Should get someone special, or move back. I don't see special with the defenders.
what if a special offensive player is there like this pitts guy or a OL?
I agree, get a special player or trade back, but I would not limit it to defense, take the great player if there, O or D.

I think the argument is that Pitts has ridiculous potential and could be a top five tight end for the next ten years. It’s like last year with Lamb, though Pitts is likely to end up being the better player

I’m all for reloading the defense but I’m also cognizant of the fact that there are sometimes special players who can make such a big difference that you can’t pass them up.

But for the season ending injury, Jaylon Smith would have been a top five pick too, Dallas selected him in the second round and has never lived up to the hype.. Be careful with Pitts likely to end up being better than Lamb, you don't know that nor do I..

Kiper is always on the air during the drafts and before a team makes their pick he ALWAYS throws out like 3 names based on how he graded all of the players and does this to protect his "draft guru" status. Funny thing, not ha ha funny, is there are enough times that a team doesn't select any of the players Kiper said because their scouts rated the players differently than Kiper.. Another thing is none of the pre-draft listings of players are all the same. Lastly I don't recall Kiper being anointed as the God of drafting. Case in point I remember off the top of my head that Kiper said in the 2005 draft that the Cowboys were going to take Shawne Merriman and took DeMarcus Ware instead and he said the Cowboys made a mistake not taking Merriman.because he was ranked higher than Ware.

The only thing I am sure of is that whoever we want, someone will jump ahead of us and grab him.

No one is giving a 2nd for Gallup during the draft.

Let the propaganda click machine roll! This is the time of year that we get all kinds of different perspectives from all kinds of analyst.
I do like this time of year it has optimism and I prefer to be optimistic with my fandom
I think Pitts is the real deal as well as Sewell but I do tend to agree in part with kiper. As crappy as our defense is I could see our cowboys reaching for the CB position when it can be addressed later in draft not unlike taco
That’s not a knock on Surtain I think he’ll be a good nfl player but I don’t know he’s that much better than a cb later in draft

Pitts is head and shoulders above any TE in draft

I’m good with a “reach” at 10 if it’s defense. Surtain Horn would be great. Slater would be great too.

dak was playing incredibly well before injury and cooper absolutely played elite

No, Dak wasn’t playing elite. He was getting a lot of Blake Bortles garbage time stats against some of the worst defenses in the league. Team fell way behind too many times. Dak was 0-4 to start the year unless one counts the miraculous victory against Atlanta only made possible by Atlanta’s brain fart.

Cooper was playing well most of the time but I never saw elite.

Is Kiper auditioning to be the next Captain obvious? He's basically parroting what many people, including people on this board have already said.

If Pitts or Sewel is there at 10, yeah, you take one of them over a corner or linebacker. But if it's just WR Waddle, I'd pass. No pun intended.

NFL has surtain ranked 5th Parsons ranked 6th and JOK ranked 7th. Each one is one guys opinion and both talk to pro scouts. I'm sure if they let the scouts do their jobs and the coaches not get as involved in stacking the board the Cowboys will have a well put together big board. with multiple players of interest at each day one and day two picks.

Well if Michael Irvin has his way it’s Surtain! Just saw his interview on NBC5 and he said he’s pushing Jerry. I trust his influence more than Kiper being right
I absolutely love me some Irvin but this makes my tummy hurt.

Imagine if the Giants or Eagles take him. Surtain can't cover Pitts because Pitts is a better player.
First the Eagles dropped down and have no realistic chance to pick him. Second the Giants are drafting defense, Eagles OL and also after the Falcons take Pitts, the next 4 selections are WR's. Surtain won't need to cover Pitts.

Everyone has Lawrence at the top. Thats an easy one because he is a generational talent just like Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning. After that is where Kipers board usually is all over the map.
I understand that, but technically he's not ALWAYS wrong, lol.
I'm just yanking your chain boss.

so a guy who grades hundreds of players every year for the last 30+ got one “wrong” 16 years ago so his opinion is garbage?

got it

Just my thoughts but Only way I would take Pitts is if we trade Gallup for a proven CB/Safety. I get the BPA approach but you gotta look at needs in certain situations. With our defense you have to take the best rated defensive player on your board because we need talent at literally every position. Not the best scheme fit, just the best defensive player.
Taking Pitts gives me martellus Bennett/Gavin escobar vibes all over again. Maybe best player at that time, but unlikely to have major impact because of who is already on the team..The reason Schultz/jarwin started looking good last year was because they were open due to defenses having to cover Cooper, Gallup, and Lamb, or Zeke...you put Pitts at TE, he absolutely gives us a more comfortable option but doesn't change the offense significantly until one of the big 3 WR or Zeke is gone. All while your defense is still trying to keep teams from scoring 40 points. It doesn't make sense. Only offensive position I'd take at 10 is OT and that's only cuz of Tyrons injury history but that's unlikely. Again, just my thoughts. Not looking to argue lol
I think OT is really in play at #10.

I think some of these defenders are rated artificially high because there the talent is so thin at the very top of the draft board.
