Romo is like his son. 9 and 82 will be off limits for a long time
I was a big Romo fan from the first moment I saw him play, and I think he was a much better quarterback than the team results showed throughout his career.
Romo had really good stats over the years, but he never reached the "special" level that deserves protection of his jersey number.
As much as I liked and respected Romo, Irvin's 88, Woodson's 28 and Ware's 94 numbers were more deserving of protection than Romo's 9 and those numbers have been worn by other players without any hesitation.
About the only real argument you could make for any Cowboy's player over the last 15 years to have their number protected would be Witten's 82, but even that is not without its debates.
