Does Dak really care about the Super Bowl when he negotiates for every penny?

Conversely, we could ask if the organization is as committed to winning a Super Bowl every time they negotiate to save a penny. I would love to say they’re doing so in the interest of rounding out the best roster they possibly can.

Time and again, we’ve learned that’s not necessarily the case.

While winning is important to both sides, there are other considerations at play. And frankly, seeing where the salary cap is heading, this particular contract should not pose problems in retaining or even procuring talent. Though, NFL clubs just love using that line on fan bases.

What I won’t do is take aim on Dak or his agent for playing and winning the market on this deal. The owners imposed the cap, this sort of artificial ceiling on spending, to reign in themselves. Not quite sure why that should be a player concern. And, of course, now owners are absolutely rolling in it.

Not to mention, Dallas had this player as he was well-outperforming his rookie contract and did nothing with it. So even if he gave the Jones family the friendliest deal in town, who’s to say they could capitalize?

Then would be the fool.

Honestly, I believe he wants to win a Super Bowl, but the way he negotiated for every penny, winning a Super Bowl cannot be his main goal.

What a crock of a post in a terrible thread. Players have a limited time to cash in. 2nd contract is incredibly important as this is the basis for his financial stability for the rest of his life. Anyone volunteering to take less is a financial idiot.

Also, those of you complaining about how we don't have enough cap space might actually take a hard look at our cap. Plenty of room. Signed guys we wanted at positions of need. Didn't have to cut anyone because of money. We do not have a cap problem

He earned it? Do you really think he deserves more than Mahommes, Brady and Rogers? There's not a chance in hell he deserves more than those three, especially not Brady.

Please tell us one time, just one, where Dak said 'now is the time to go out and start winning and win super bowls'. He never did. He only said it after his stupid ridiculous contract. It was an empty comment, like winning wasn't important until after he got paid.

That's right...and Dak getting to much of the salary cap, the idiots in charge cannot get good a good team around him. But, he got his...he don't need no Superbowl...and he most likely will never win one...just like Romo said, "If I don't win a SB...I'm cool".

Silly question.

Dak made it more than clear that it’s all about money for him.

Funniest part was the Jones’s pretending to play hardball only to cave like they always do. Idiots.

How did he make it more clear than any other player in the league not named brady?

Its only an excuse we use when players demand huge contracts when they haven't accomplished a damn thing. Like Dak and Zeke did...
So why not blame the source? Why blame the askers?

I fired my cable company...not because they didn't; give me what I wanted but because I didn't want to pay their hiked up price. I didn't blame Mike and Molly show for it.

I don't agree. Don't you think the Lawrence, Smith, Elliott, Cooper deals set a lot of this in motion? The Joneses are blinkers, any agent that lest them off hurts his own reputation. If you're an agent with a Cowboys star, you will get him into the top 3-5 or you will not grow your own business.

Every agent competing with France used the same approach with a player considering him because of this deal. Yes, but look who he was dealing with. They are the worst people at dealing with star players, why should the QB be any different.

There is also another piece to this that every agent in the biz was aware of regarding the cap. They had some inside dope on the TV deals so they knew the cap would be climbing at a greater rate than in the past. They're not just fighting for today's dollars but tomorrow's as well.

Check Prescott's deal against Allen, Mayfield, Murray and then we haven't seen the other shoe with Rodgers and Wilson drop yet either.
no, its not about them being blinkers. you don't become multi billionaire by blinking. they are bad evaluators of talent and play fantasy football. they pay some guys they should and pay some guys they shouldn't.

is it his responsibility to put a team around him? and I am sure you are going to say he should have taken a 35M/year deal and help the team. is 5M going to help the team become a superbowl champion? your response was out of anger and emotion. that simple. btw, his salary cap hit is 22M this year.....so.....where are all the great defensive signings you guys promised we could get if we had him on the cheap...go ahead spin away

He 100% knew he was negotiating with clowns and he schooled them.

Big W for Dak. Huge L for this franchise.
so you consider Jones and Stephen, owners of the most valued franchise in NFL and multi billionaire's to be clowns...and get schooled in business

wow....I wish I was idiots like them.

Dak made 28 million last year. Dak was set for life before this last contract.

Dak asked for every penny and wouldn’t give the team a 5th year. All I am saying, Dak is smart. He knows this team needs some huge upgrades on defense. He could have taken a little less, still been set for life, AND helped his team build a stronger defense through Free Agency.

Of course Dak wants to win a Super Bowl, but it’s not his #1 priority. Many QB’a are just like Dak.
so if your company says, Captain43...take a 50% pay cut for the good of the company so we can hire some good engineers....would you? its for the good of the company you know.

Most if not ALL cash in on that first contract. We had him at a value for 4 years and all he did was be a complete professional. Fact is he believes the cap will shoot up and he will have a middling contract in 2 or 3 years. I get your point, but management has to learn the difference between good and bad money. That's on them. Over paying Zeke and Jaylon is on them entirely.

Sounds like you are rooting for Dak, not the franchise. When Dak leaves in 4 years for more money are you going with him?

I root for Dak because he is in the Cowboys!
since Dak is here now and probably for the forseeable future, are you planning to root for somebody else?

Hey, one of the King Dak Haters. Mahomes and Rogers signed a year or ago. So when Dak’s turn came around of course he got paid more. That’s how it works in the NFL. You got butt hurt about it because of your hate for Dak.

lets be honest, he will likely walk when his next deal comes up. We had better start looking in the draft for a QB to develop now. I think a guy like Sam Ehlinger or Shane Buchelle would be fine to take a chance on. If Dak doesnt get us where we need to be, I think it will be a mutual parting after his deal runs out.
how do you know that? do you have a crystal ball that you like to share with the rest of us.

you sound very resentful....and angry

And Dak turned down offers so what is your point? Dak isn't greedy....lol.

Was he greedy his first 4 years when by any measure he was seriously under paid?

What did he do it about other then fulfill his contract and what for his opportunity to be paid unlike Zeke.

You can ask the same question about the other 31 quarterbacks in the league.

I can’t believe you don’t know Dak was set for life prior to this contract. I am talking about Dak’s situation, no other player.

Dak knows this team is weak on defense. He could have taken 35 million per year and helped the D, but he choose to take every penny and not give us a 5th year.

Dak’s ego wanted 40+ million so he could be the 2nd highest paid player. He had to weigh: Do I want to be the 2nd highest paid player or take a few million less and help the defense more and not have the prestige of the 2nd highest player.
what about Zeke? what about Cousins? what about Wilson? what about Mahomes? what about 100s of other NFL players who signed large contracts and didn't take a discount.....they were all set with their initial multi million dollar contracts....

btw, you think 5M per year would help this D? tell me how

and did you know his cap hit for this year is 22M? LOL
