If you draft a QB this year then his contract will run out in 4 years, like Dak. So I don't think we take anyone. And to be honest I don't like anyone
except top5, Trask and Mond. Maybe in a couple years.
I think Gilbert is the backup and we will propably sign a cheap one if necessary.

You’re just fine in a 1 game scenario with GG. The fact that he’s been around is a positive in that case, he has some modicum if experience. He’ll be waaaay better than a 4+ round rookie.Hmm I disagree. If Dak goes down, we need someone who can give us something extra (eg. running ability) to stay competitive for the short term. A backup QB who can run would also give us some neat options in our playcalling (like Hill in NO).
We also need some longer term insurance if something else happens to Dak.
Gilbert looked good for one game, but his history of bouncing around the league doesn't bode well for him. Nooch is trash.
It's the most important position on the team, and our depth chart is horrendous.
Let's say we're in the playoff hunt, end of season, every he matters. Dak gets a fluke one game injury. You guys feel good with Gilbert and/or Nooch to keep us competitive?
I understand but I don't want to waste a 3rd round on Trask/Mond and I don't see any other QB that would be competent. I would wait one or two years when we fix some of our problems and draft a good prospect on 3rd/4rd round when the QB class improves. This year I don't think we go that way.Weirdest logic ever. Contracts can be extended. We probably aren’t drafting a QB to be the future full time starter. You draft a developmental QB so you can have a cheap, competent backup QB vs paying a vet $3-5m+ to be a backup. Also, if the guy really develops you can trade him for draft picks.

Nooch isn’t a consideration. He might, and that’s a big might, be capable near the end of Dak’s contract.
I’m not saying don’t take a QB this year. I’ve taken a QB, generally Ehlinger or Beuchelle, in most simulated mocks I’ve done. I just don’t believe they will be anywhere near as capable for 1 game this year as Gilbert. Any QB taken this year would be replacing the Nooch.I disagree. Gilbert looked good in one game. But that doesn't mean he can be a reliable backup for us. He will be more reliable than a 4th rounder right away, but its possible the 4th rounder will offer some skills Gilbert just can't. And thinking long term, chances are that 4th rounder (with a talent edge) will grow to be a better backup than Gilbert as well

Cooper Rush is also still with the Cowboys.
Well if we have to get a backup. I am very high on Felipe Franks from Arkansas
