Saw a lot of complaints about Dallas drafting an LB so high

Seems like it keeps getting regurgitated here and in the twitterverse as if linebackers don't conventionally get taken w/ premium picks.

Going back 5 years there's been linebackers taken in the top 10 every year (except for 17 where the first was taken at pick 13)

2019 there were 3 taken in the top 10 (and one more @ 12)
2018 there 2 (and another at 16)

I get we've now got a ton of resources at LB and it's disappointing how things have panned out, just wanted to kill the narrative.

Basically they just put LVE and Smith on notice, perform or leave. I would've preferred finally having a 1T instead to clean up the line for us and make life easier for the entire defense. However, I've accepted that the current braintrust just doesn't value a space-eating DT the way some fans do.

I mean they could play all of em. All can run.

So are you saying that they are bad at drafting LBs because what they draft never seems fo work.

Thanks again pathetic fan genius like you keeping this organization in the Dumpster with your blind support.

I think it’s fair to say that LVE won’t get his option picked up.

If he had a good season, good for him, we will talk numbers next offseason. If not, we got some depth to replace.

what are you babbling about twerp? This isn’t blind support of anything. I was simply curious of draft patterns year to year for Lb’s league wide and shared my findings. LVE and Jaylon have both turned out to be horrible picks. Also my opinions, good bad or indifferent, have zero impact on the state of the franchise. Yours as well, coupled with being consistently bad even relative to the myriad of bad takes here.

Complaining is a primary reason forums like this exist.

Im not unfamiliar. Sometimes when things get repeated though they grow legs. I thought about the bucs taking white at 5 previously, and just went back to look where the top lbs are taken each year.

I don’t get the LVE hate.

His only problem is his health.. Other than that he is absolutely incredible as a talent / player.

pretty much just the health. He’s been a shadow of his phenomenal former self. It’s too bad because I bought all the way in. Hate to see it.

i dont understand it myself

All 3 levels of the defense were bad last season.....and Linebackers go in the top 10 heck even top 5 because its an important position

we draft what most say is the best LB in college football and is a force in run stopping which we gave up 200 yards a game too many times last season

agree.

the broken collar bone was bad luck.

and having Nolan as the DC didn’t help anyone.

Big Mike acts like he doesn’t even know Nolan, when it was his fault Nolan was even hired.

this draft is a direct result of that train wreck.

Exactly. I hope he has a great season. I am worried that his body won’t hold up, but would love to see him return to form.

yeah was mostly my point. i kept hearing that that drafting an LB that high isn't good use of a premium pick. And I started thinking about it and just went and researched to confirm. I'm pretty happy w/ the pick honestly. Although the way the draft unfolded I'd have preferred Slater and JOK, or the trade back w/ Chicago. Wish the panthers would have just taken Devonta though lol

Whenever a first round pick doesn't pan out as hoped..........regardless of the reason......... he is going to get some hate.

Coming out of college, his injury issues were the knock on him and the reason he didn't go higher.
The Cowboys gambled, and it appears they loss.

We have a strange, inconsistent philosophy, which may be a reason we have languished so long in futility.

We take injury-prone players high in the draft (Mo Claiborne, Jayson Smith, LVE, Bruce Carter, Sean Lee), and players with character issues high (Randy Gregory, Micah Parsons, Kevin Joseph).

We just don't have consistency across our organization. :(
