David Moore w/ Norm Hitzges on The Ticket today -
  • There's a lack of defensive "expertise" in the front office and scouting department
  • Ownership/franchise culture is offensive-centric. (Cowboys have not resigned a 1st rd pick on defense since Demarcus Ware)
  • Scouts lean towards offensive players to satisfy the owner
  • The last two Cowboys head coaches were offensive-minded
  • This dynamic leads to a situation where the franchise leans on the defensive coordinator excessively regarding personnel decisions
  • They always view the next defensive coordinator as their "savior". Meanwhile, in Baltimore, a new DC is expected to contribute to established defensive culture.
  • When the DC is fired or goes elsewhere (Norm mentioned Quinn leaving for another HC job if he turns this thing around), the franchise has to start from scratch because there's no foundational defensive system in place here in Dallas
  • Mentioned how now they're throwing numbers at the problem in hopes that competition will fix the problem (no real plan)

Most of the intelligent fans who have been on this board for a while know ALL of this. Otherwise our D would not stink the place up like it does.

Yep. Parcells was the last HC to have a defensive system effectively installed.

I don’t know what we got at hc right now but I’d like to believe that Coach Garrett was out there teaching technique all the way down to the basics on the defensive side of the ball. So this talk about him being a offensive oriented coach is a giant crock. Because when I look back all I saw was a leader of men and the giant mistake it was to let him out the door.

If a former QB is out there teaching defensive techniques, that might be part of the problem

Knowledgeable fans understand this, but appreciate the confirmation

Defense has been our undoing when we have to have a win for years. Having grown up in the 1970's with Doomsday this eats at me. Never, and I mean never make that timely stop in big games. I'm not even going to mention defensive domination.

But the theory does hold water. Booger wants to sell tickets and the average fan is turned on by offense.

Well, Jerry put all those Super Bowls together himself with the triplets, so of course he thinks offense is the priority.

You have to recognize the problem before you can fix it. Hopefully they do their best in fixing the problem. But more than likely they'll just run Moore out the building. In a king killing the messenger type of way.

I doubt it. Those guys are constantly mocking Jerry and Stephen. Hell they were doing so on the draft show today, and it was hilarious lol

The big issue is Jason Garrett was never allowed to pick his defensive coordinator and was never held accountable for defensive gaffs. Any other HC would have been fired instead of shuffling around DCs.

Like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I think Quinn has a plan. But if he leaves they are correct we are screwed. Which is why I thought it made zero sense hiring mike. The offense stays the same because of kellen which frees the hc to focus on defense except our HC is an idiot who knows neither.

Right.

They would spend years collecting specific players for a DC, only to change that.....then spend more time getting the new guy his players....and on and on.

That's why this obvious Quinn draft is even more of a problem if this doesn't turn around sooner than later.

What did Jason Garrett know? Clapping and spitting? At least Big Mike has a ring.
