looks like maybe the neck surgery may have been worse than we know he had one good year in four when they drafted two linebackers you knew that the two they have are both in trouble

There is no reason to think he can stay healthy, and my fear is somehow he does and we extend him to only have the injuries pile up like Lee's

Writing was on the wall after parsons pick. Cox pick solidified his option year

Of course if the surgery worked wonders, and he's All Pro this year (bear with me here, just imagining) then Dallas probably will yet again lose a high draft pick who's a high performer and get nothing (as in SBs) out of it....

It really sucks that just a few years ago, we hoped our young LB crew would be the core part of our defense. Now we just had to re-invest a high first and 4th round pick again into that position. Hopefully they have better luck this time.

I still have a slimmer of hope on LVE, although with his injury history I am not sure he is a guy you can count on even if his play rebounds.

Water under the bridge, but the Smith pick started the linebacker corps on the downhill slide. LVE having prior neck issues just accelerated it. Now we got to climb back up the hill, hopefully Parsons and Cox both turn out very good to great...

You're exactly right. If he's all pro he'll be lost to free agency.

What's to stop us from franchise tagging him if he plays like an All-Pro? It might be worth tagging him and seeing if he can do it again the following season. It would give us a chance to see if he can be consistent before we try to resign him.

Honestly this is good for him. HE balls out this year and he gets paid. I'd be excited to not have a team use my option but they most always do if you're playing well.

The gambler in me would still re-sign him....in hope he gets back to form because his rookie season is one of the best you're ever going to see from a linebacker.

He might get paid but I doubt it's here if Parsons and Cox show enough.

Or not, if the 2022 cap is like $250 mil...

But it won't be. Look for 2023 and 2024 to start spiking. They still owe money towards the cap. They didn't take it all back this year. They're doing it slowly. The league probably owes around 30 million to the cap. Then consider the probability that not every state is going to allow full stadiums. I expect, or at least I hope, next year's cap to be at minimum 20-30 million more than this year. Hopefully.

Best thing for the team is for LVE to stay healthy and return to '18 form. Could easily find the money by cutting Smith after this season. I think we could find plenty of work for LVE, Parsons, and Cox for the next few years. That would be a big, fast LB crew.

The problem is that some of you still pretend that Vander Esch is a better player than Smith. He might not be, which is kind of depressing. Vander Esch has kind of escaped criticism for the defensive woes while Smith bears the biggest brunt, but if you watched the games LVE played, he was just as bad as Smith.

Hopefully Parsons and Cox are hits and we can start over rebuilding a better LB corps.

Now there are players with his skills that will be on rookie deals...he plays the full year healthy and plays well id cut Jaylon and give LVE jaylons remaining contract.
what if Jaylon outplays him again like he did last year?

Why not just pick up his 5th year option if you're going to go that route? It would be a lot cheaper in the long run. Or don't pick it up and look to work out a more team friendly deal before he plays out his last year. The idea is to avoid a franchise tag. To avoid having one of our players play at an all pro level just as he becomes a free agent. That never ends well.

Didn’t like the pick when we drafted him. Sucks that injuries have derailed him lately. Hopefully he plays all 17+ and we can get him back fairly cheap

nah that madness has to stop..at some point aplayer needs to play into anew deal not giving one that hope he plays up it..with LVES injury history, lack of experience on the field and recent struggles, why outbid yourself?

it happens far too much around here and im ll for letting LVE prove hes worth keeping..it will be better to overpay a guy whos arrived then one who might someday be good and overpaid and they never arrive..

LVE has shown nothing at this point to need to pick up 5th year option or worry abut long term deal. Seriously this draft shows we decided to get some youth to push these guys just in case we end up with an all new LB core for 2022..

we were more then patient with SLee all these years but just cant be using emotional responses with payer ie being loyal to popular players, they need to out up or be gone.. so what if they lave and become all pros somewhere else that the risk you take and i as GM wouldn't sweat it..

you dont being in this many new LB options if you are satisfied with those on the current staff
