The theme that I keep seeing, (and my gut reaction is worried that it’s true) is that the three third round picks were essentially shooting blanks, but that the picks in round four were steals.

I love the fact that the round 4 players were viewed as steals. But if we missed on the picks in round three (yet to be determined) what a waste of draft capital.
To be fair, Jerry used to treat his 2nd round picks like blanks.
At least he moved down a round.

That's called progress!

I want to go cry now. Just a little me time in the bathroom.
I'm turning on the ceiling vent to drown out the sobs.

This MIGHT turn out to be a great draft like the 1975 one, but we have no way of knowing if that's the case just yet. None of our draftees have played a single down in the NFL yet. You simply don't ever know if your draft was good until a few years have gone by. I have a good feeling about many of these players, but that's just a hunch, and I've been wrong before.

I've always found it ludicrous to grade a draft right after it's done. You need about 4 to 5 years to grade it accurately.
Amber told me it's in the bag.
Don't need no 4-5 years.
In the bag.

Done dealio.

You cannot judge a draft after the draft.
All we and most others know is what we’ve read or heard.
Everything depends on
  • The scheme fit and coaching, including how a guy is used
  • The player’s physical and mental ability to execute what the coach wants from the position
  • The player’s heart and work ethic
Exactly
I think we had a solid draft
I think we could have had a better draft going quality on quantity
We won’t know who was right for 3 years or so

One thing for sure already
It won’t turn out like our “ special teams” draft I can already guarantee
If memory serves me right only one got a second contract

Whenever I see a post like this I think, "Here's the opportunity to look back then at those drafts".

The third round was just ugly but we did alright otherwise. Taking Parsons over a CB worked out perfectly. Parsons was PFF highest graded LB vs the run since 2014! I couldn’t watch another season getting gashed up the middle. A safety would have been nice that’s gonna be an interesting camp battle. Hopefully Kazee is healthy.

Front-office people said they were impressed with the drafts of the Cowboys, Chargers, Giants, Jaguars, Jets, Ravens, Steelers and Vikings, among others.

With linebacker Micah Parsons and cornerback Kelvin Joseph as their first- and second-round picks, the Cowboys were viewed as a team that added two high-end talents to its defense. One scout thinks Joseph was the third-best cornerback in the draft. He also believes both of the Cowboys’ fourth-rounders — linebacker Jabril Cox and offensive tackle Josh Ball — will be NFL starters. He said Ball could have gone in the second round.

yah, but it could have been an all time incredible draft. Notice they didnt mention the 3rd round. Which is where Jerry got drunk and forgot what to do.

Joseph and Ball are high risk high reward guys. If they stay out of trouble and mature both are going to make an impact. Problem is the chances of them behaving is low.

Why are you so sure the 3rd Rd picks aren't gonna ball out. Thats all that matters. . . not when they were drafted.

The UCLA DT is Strong Smart and an insane competitor

We got Iowa Captain. He is 6-5 and strong run defender. . . may still put on weight.

Which brings us to Wright 6-4 Corner with 4.3 speed that plays the ball. . . Quinn wanted Him and went out and got Him . . . because Quinn feels he needed Him and had to have Him.

Whats the problem? So obsessed with the Rd . . . the Rd doesn't matter . . . you have to get the kid on your team then you have to select him. . .

There is a new infusion of ridiculously tall athletic WR coming into the league . . . Think goodness we got Quinn who recognizes this and is tooling this defense to be prepared

There is always a chance. All I can tell you is most pundits agree the draft went south in the 3rd.

I know I heard them. . . but this was a strange year to evaluate.

listening to interviews from those 3rd round picks has turned me in favor of them . . . Osa sounds really professional based on support system His Brother has provided.

Golston took it upon himself to play DT at senior Bowl in order to showcase himself, to me that was very impressive . . . I am more weary of Him then the other 2 based on the Cowboys History of drafting DE lately . . . but I will take a wait and see approach.

Wright sounds like a real student of the game. He is really articulate and has a strong awareness of who he is and what he brings to the table. I think he will continue to grow into the Player Quinn envisions

Wright doesn't have 4.3 speed.

Just stop.

He's also a marginal athlete.

Considering we didn’t get either of our intentions in first two rounds I thought we did pretty well.

We focused on defense and stayed with it. It has to inject some much needed talent in some of our most pressing needs.

Most grades have been B to A-.

Three of our picks had players with a problem history is a concern but it’s why they went lower in the draft.

Potential 3-4 starters in this draft. We shall see in coming years.

what trouble has Joseph gotten into? I know about Ball and his DV issues from 2017, but hadn't heard about any trouble with Joseph.

Joseph has had some maturity issues in the past. He was suspended by LSU for a bowl game. I don’t think it’s much more than that stuff.
