Are the Cowboys just a better defense away from being contenders?

I don’t but I guess I’m more negative because there is a lot to be negative about.

I hate how the team is built.. I don’t think we did a good job with our coaching hire.

On top of all of that.. They never do anything in the post season and we locked down a roster of players that have proven they can’t do the job and our yearly upgrades our 20 and 21 year old rookies.

When Dallas gives me a reason to believe I’ll start to believe. 2014 I was on here Pom poming. 2016 as well and in 2018 I was believing in them even though I knew the coach put us at a huge disadvantage every Sunday.
This is an accurate summary. There has been very little reason to pick up the pom-poms for the last couple of decades. There has been a few years that was exceptions, but for the most part, it has been depressing to be a fan. After 50+ years of being a fan, I am starting to doubt ever seeing another Super Bowl win in my lifetime.

The Cowboys are just a healthy Dak away from being contenders. They could have made no changes to the defense and just getting Dak back would win this division.

Even so, we all know Brady is the only QB in this era who’s been consistently winning Super Bowls.

That’s what Trolls do. They use a fact to spin their bull****.

Surely you don’t believe Brady is the only QB after Rookie contract to consistently win and contend ?

Most of these QBs take team crushing deals like Dak has. That’s why I think they don’t see the consistency that Tom has seen.

You got a lot of guys like Russel Wilson who win on their rookie contracts and then want every dime possible and then they can’t ever win another.

Lately the trend is for those types to either get traded or kick scream and cry to be traded.

Do you really think that any of the NFCE teams has a snowball’s chance in hell of reaching the Super Bowl last year? Do you think that any of the teams has a chance in the upcoming season? There has been a a lot of changes since that Super Bowl was won. None of those changes have improved the NFCE teams. It is the worst division in the league and the future is not looking good for the division either.
I do think that the Cowboys and Washington have a chance this season. Do you really believe that the Cowboys haven't improved with the players returning from injury and around 18 new players?

Winning is a stat that is ignored when discussing Dak. His record against decent defenses is another touchy subject. Winning is overshadowed by those great stats that are accumulated during the games that are already out of reach.

That was one of the arguments for having to pay Dak.. He’s just a winner.

Guy has won nothing and he’s just a winner.

What is his record as a starter? He has an excellent chance to be a big winner in his career if he stays healthy. He certainly will be one of the top qbs in the NFC.

Have a chance at what?

Dallas should win the division.

I like Washington’s team better but they just have nothing at QB.

I do think a lot of people would say Washington defense > Dallas offense & Washington Offense > Dallas’s defense.

I still think we win the division though. Then wildcard is always a 50/50 game.. Division round is where we will probably run into a legit team and get schooled.

The NFC is wide open. The Cowboys have as good a chance as any at this point. Tampa looks good but anything can happen in a 17 game schedule.

You continue to confuse winning a championship as some kind of ultimate measurement these QB’s after their Rookie contract aren’t still winning and contending for championships.

This attempt to spin paying your QB prevents a team from contending for championship is a Troll like behavior using a stat to promote such bull crap.

Theres a reason teams sign their QB to extended contracts because it provides them their best opportunity to continue contending.

Mediocre teams make the playoffs all the time.

Mediocre teams can have a winning record too. Really good teams can have a bad record.

There is different context to different situations.. I shouldn’t have to explain that to you but here I am.

I shouldn’t have to explain to you why Dak and the greatest offense of all time had its numbers inflated.

But.. I know you don’t comprehend things like that very well and you just look at everything as it is.

You didnt answer the question. Why didnt we make the playoffs last year? After all, its what you predicted.

Lets see if you can comprehend that one.

The answer is injuries and the poor coaching of the defense.

I have to see the offense score points against a good defense. Usually, we score against scrub defenses or when we've dug ourselves in such a hole, the opponent's defense is in prevent mode.

Of the last 15 Super Bowl winners the average winning quarterback salary was 8 percent of their team’s overall cap. Conversely the average of the top five quarterback salaries averaged 15 percent of the team’s cap of the same year. Three times in those fifteen years did the winning QBs salary rank amongst the top 5 and one-third of the winning QBs were on their rookie contract. Average Super Bowl winning QB’s salary applied to the cap for this period was $10.9 million. The top five QBs salary applied to cap was $18.8 million compared to the average top 5 running back’s salary applied was $8.2 million, and the top 5 wide receiver salary applied was $12.1 million.

We had a top offense last year with Dak and have secured our franchise QB and multiple weapons with a proven OL if it can stay healthy .

But what must improve is a defense which was statistically one of the worst in our franchise’s history

How much better does our defense need to be for this team to become more of a contender ? Will average be enough assuming our offense is top 5? Your thoughts !!

the OL is a worry.

Our defense was ranked top 12 in 2019 and we still went 8-8 with the #1 ranked offense.

You wanna know why? Check the QB stats in the loses.

Defense was terrible. Offense was amazing until Dalton was our QB. Dak plays all year and we make the playoffs easy.

Offense was amazing..

I wish that amazing offense would’ve shown up against the Rams or Giants with Dak instead of showing up against 3 terrible pass defenses that had our team down by multiple scores before they decided to just be uh mazing.
