There were other teams with a new headcoach and/or defensive coordinator. They all were handicapped as we were. We provided the worst results. Even after 1 year, someone had to go.
the results were not that different and all circumstances vary but dont bring in Carolina or WFT the records are all that count and not many teams that made wholesale changes last offseason were successful.

i dont remember them all but none were truly a success..

I’m hopeful about this new collection of defensive players. But keep in mind that getting excited about guys “making plays” in a mini-camp in shorts and t-shirts can be deceiving. Especially with DL or LBs not in pads. All they can really show at this point is footwork which is something but the real test comes when the pads are on.

The did but they also had the worst of the bunch.

For instance look at the Commanders......they did well with Rivera defensively but on offense they SUCKED.

Having new coaches in place reared its ugly head for most teams.

Not for the Browns it seems and maybe i'm missing another team.
exactly!! one game beter does not make them successful at 7-9 vs 6-10 that all the matters. What team with an entire new coaching staff and brand new odd scheme without the payers to fit it were successful last season??

Excellent, thank you for posting this.
Despite the unfamiliarity that most of the fan base have with the names of these players, this is a very exciting good looking group of rookie draft pics and UDFAs.

One other key factor that didn’t help was the atrocious failure that was the 2020 free agent class. Whoever played any role in that should hang their head in shame.

The team either got no contributions whatsoever from guys like Clinton-Dix and McCoy, or on-field performance and attitudes so poor that they decided they were better off without them like Poe, Worley, and Griffen. Things actually improved a bit AFTER those guys were jettisoned.
Yeah, total flop of hope-for-best kind of signings.

Nolan has been known to be clueless about DL before. From a 2005 Mike Tanier article we have this:

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/strategy-minicamps/2005/defensive-line-basics-mind-gap

Players, for the most part, prefer a one-gap style because it allows them to attack at the snap. Some defenders are far more effective when careening towards a gap than they are while trying to read the offense. In the late 1990's, the Commanders signed DTs Dan Wilkinson and Dana Stubblefield, then used them in a scheme that emphasized two-gap responsibilities. The system negated the strengths of two super-athletic interior players, and the defense suffered as a result. (The coach responsible for the dubious decision: Mike Nolan, under the supervision of Norv Turner.)

Yeah, total flop of hope-for-best kind of signings.

A collection of has-beens and never were’s. McCoy was physically done, along with Clinton-Dix and Worley. And Poe and Griffen were mentally checked out and just trying to grab that last paycheck.

Is a single one of them currently on an NFL roster?

No doubt there is not much you can find out about DL until the pads come on. Unfortunately in todays NFL padded practice are far and in between yet they only way to get these guys up to speed is by having the pads on and out there hitting. Only good thing is it appears we will have a pre season so they need to make the most of it.

like he mentioned this isnt new Marinelli was very hands on and we saw JG working on the field all the time with players..so calm down with the excitement already lOL

hers the difference. Nolan did NOT HAVE AN OFFSEASON, most of his critics are unfairly judging this guy, as little as thee Rookie OTas, OTAS, MC, TC and PS seem, its the single biggest reason for the failure of Nolan getting is scheme installed with the correct players.. second reason Injuries..have to get to 3 for actual coaching..

sure he was let go as a lot of defensive coaches because of the unsuccessful season but IMHO given this full offseason im betting they would have had chance to improve a lot..

assessments of any plyer or coach last year truly is incomplete and unfair.. i mean of course the offense being for the most part status quo from 19 the defense tried to to change everything and how that on Nolan alone is just using him as scapegoat..

hers to having hope its going to be better..ill save my praise for Real game results not rookie OTAS
Mrs. Nolan, we’re sorry your husband sucked and got launched. Wait, I said we’re sorry???

Bahahahahaha just kidding. We’re glad he’s gone. Should’ve never been hired by his HC.

Nolan should have known better than to try and do a complete overhaul given the circumstances of 2020. His biggest failure, IMO, was not recognizing that he didn't have enough time/practice to completely overhaul the defense.
Exactly, situational awareness was lacking with his plan.

Every year we see the same stuff, then the season starts and we are shocked at how bad our team looks at times. Nothing they do when facing each other should impress anyone. I will be impressed when they face NFL opposition and win their individual battles.

I ask this question every year I think. When we see someone standing out in training camp is it because he is so good or because the Cowboys he is facing are so bad? When Bohanna faces the Eagles' Jason Kelce and pushes him back into the pocket or just holds his ground, I will be impressed. Until then I don't know what to make of him. The same goes for Parsons. Let's see how he does behind the Cowboys defensive line when they are facing an opposing offense.

I want to feel good about the Cowboys draft, but it all boils down to the regular season and winning games.

difference of opinion circumstances change the facts.. he never had a shot..

he doesnt suck he sucked because of the circumstance..

its over but i was very concise provided facts and like i stated none of the full staff converted teams last year were any more successful// having no offseason, c19 protocols and opt outs, and injurys etc its plays role how did SF do with all their injuries'? philly? OH MY Bill belicheck howd he do with all those circumstances and his staff was static, dropped off cliff SB runs to 7-9

circumstances changes expectations..sure change was needed doesnt change the fact that Nolan with the same better circumstances more likely then not has a lot better results..

I have no idea who ****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** is or what kind of access he has to the team. But I am thinking he is just a blogger that spends a lot of his time breaking down film, and I do appreciate his work as it sometimes gives me another prospective.

But with that said it is funny how he states that “the thing he has noticed is the coaches are really putting in the work, more so then before”. That was stated as a matter of fact but how can that be as they just completed there first rookie mini camp with just a few vid clips here and there. So how the hell does he come up with that statement? Unless he is actually at the practices and has been there in prior years to compare.

Yeah I don't know why people keep hyping up with the Giants and Commanders did. They stinked just like we did......
