Mike Nolan deserves a lot of blames but to make him the lone scapegoat is totally wrong and simplistic approach .....too bad we will never hear his side of the story
It’s not just scapegoating him though. Spears is right. When everyone picks who’s going to win the NFC East the narrative is never the Commanders took advantage of injury riddled team in the Cowboys who’s defense coordinator was bad.

Nolan was bad. If those same players are bad this year then maybe we can revisit Nolan’s career here but as of right now? The defense was never this bad under Rod.

Nolan seems to be the reason but we will find out this upcoming year if it was all him or the players that are still around are the REAL reason we sucked.

Very true. The players sucked too. All of them except maybe Wilson.

A defense that bad is definitely more than just the DC. It is too easy to lay that on a guy that never took the field, missed coverages, reads and tackles.

He was the wrong hire and I didn't like it from the beginning and it was just plain stupid to install a new system with the prep challenges they had but this team had a talent issue before Nolan showed up. I do not know how far they've come in addressing that but I do like what they've done.

I do agree with his assessment, I believe the Cowboys will have the most improved D and best O in the division. The question is do they have the best coaching in the division?

top 7 offense? I expect top 4. Assuming we are healthy, who is going to score more points than the Cowboys? Chiefs because Mahomes is someone I would put up there.... but who else after that?

Nolan deserves a lot of the blame. So do injuries. Lack of depth, some HC snafus, bad officiating and circumstance combine to make up the rest.

The thread isn’t about Dak. Quit hijacking posts because of your hate for Dak.

The defense was bad because the players were simply not good enough. The secondary was awful, Diggs was the only player who had good moments but also got beat quite often as rookies often do which ideally will change, the LBs could not tackle and could not mind the gaps, and outside of DLaw the defensive line was terrible. There is a reason the Cowboys basically drafted every defender they could find with an aim towards improving the defense. Unfortunately drafted players typically do not change a franchise year 1 which means to see the benefits of this draft the Cowboys have to wait a year which likely means an awful defense this year as well.

IMHO, it was combination of many variables:

1)Inserting the wrong scheme for the personnel we had.
2)Lack of talent and depth in a couple of areas.
3)Injuries
4)Lack of prep time, TC, etc.
5)Bad officiating and circumstance.

Even with all that, we could have very easily won another 2 or 3 games. While real predictions are pointless this early, with all the changes, I honestly don’t see how we could lose more than six games in 2021, IF we stay relatively healthy. Compared to 2020, of course.

But a BETTER defense in 2021! Add a better offense, and an “easier” schedule, and you’ve got an extra 4-6 wins!

Philly may be a reach but especially NYG have improved significant in the offseason. Still i view WFT to win the division with the Giants coming in second.

I agree. Philly is a long shot but NY has improved a lot and they will have Barkley back full speed so that will be a big difference for them IMO. Washington is flat out good Defensively. On Offense, they have improved on both the OL and in the WR group. They have Fitzpatrick and Heinicke. They won the Division last year and they've only gotten better. How anybody counts them out is beyond me.

Not counting the Commanders out. Giants either, but Dallas looks to me like they’ve improved the most.
