There are plenty of reasons to believe the Dallas Cowboys can not only contend for the NFC East, but the NFC title this upcoming season. Former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum thinks it’s not only possible, but plausible.

During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up! on Tuesday, Tannenbaum revealed he believes the Cowboys can “take Tampa Bay all the way to the Conference [Championship].” He also thinks Dallas will beat the Buccaneers on opening night.

“I think [the Cowboys] can take Tampa Bay all the way to the Conference [Championship],” Tannenbaum said, via Get Up!. “… When Dallas beats Tampa on opening night, they’re going to have the inside track for home-field advantage.”

He’s just following a script that they gave him. I’m sure there was someone else with a counter-view. It is standard operating procedure there.

Does that mean that Dallas can’t win the NFC? Of course not… but it doesn’t mean anything the other way either. Just meaningless sports talk.

maybe, maybe not. its a tall task. I expect the offense to be fine. they are going against one of the best defenses in the league and usually those battles end up somewhere in the middle. you win some. they win some. however, their offense is good but our defense has to rise from bottom feeding to respectable. not sure we can do that, so quickly. new scheme. new coaches. 6 new players. we will be on different pages early one. it would have to come down to individual heroics on the defensive side. Brady will find the weakness and pick it apart.

As they say, “Any Given Sunday”

The Jets beat Dallas in 2019 for example.
Sure, its possible that Dallas beats Tampa on opening Day

I think the Cowboys can be pretty strong, but I say that with the caveat that I am far from comfortable that it will happen. A lot will have to be answered on the field. But I can't say I'm confident they will beat Tampa. I don't count it as impossible, but it's a tough expectation.

Someone gets projected as the winner every year. The fact someone feels the Cowboys are in contention is great news to me.

Micah Parsons needs to imprint his jersey number on Brady several times early. Get His Highness to start looking for where Mad Micah is and adjust the protection toward Parsons. Then perhaps some of the other people who are paid to knock the snot out of the opposing quarterback can find it within themselves to introduce Brady to the ground. Slap the ball from his hand until it bruises.

Brady is great, but he is also human. The results producing several hours in the tub to nurse his battered frame would go a long way in making this win possible.

Dak and the Tres Hombres, with Double Trouble coming out of the backfield could "finish what they started."

O Tannebaum,
O Tannebaum,
How wacky are your game picks,
You're wrong not only in summertime,
no, also in winter when it snows...

Dallas hasn't beaten Tom Brady in the two decades he's been in the league.

This defense figures to have numerous young guys, and I fully expect Tommy Boy to pick them apart. Dak will have to put up a 40 burger for us to have a chance.

That being said, huge opportunity for us. Hope we can do it. To be the man, you gotta beat the man.

Even if the Bucs prevail in the 2021 opener...it won't be definitive about how the rest of the Cowboys' season unfolds.
Recall 2020: Tampa Bay was only 7-5 thru November - losing the last two games of the month to eventual playoff teams Rams and Chiefs. But after thheir bye week, the Buccaneers finished the season going 4-0, then going on on to win 3 road playoffs games before throttling KC for the NFL Championship.
Would it be nice to knock off the champs at their stadium where the last game they played there was a Super Bowl victory --- yes.
But if Dallas followed a 0-1 start by winning 9 of the next 10 games to set them up at 9-2 after Thanksgving Day... who wouldn't like that?

Dallas is going to be lethal once again on offense. That defense, though? Not going to be up to snuff, despite heavy draft capital invested therein. Brady is going to torch the Cowboys through the air IF Quinn doesn't have the defense set.

It will definitely be a winner in the TV ratings for sure. I just hope Dallas doesn't embarrass themselves or it will be the "same ole Cowboys" theme all over again.
