I posted this list earlier but neglected to include a source of the screenshot. It’s from Colin Cowherd’s show earlier today. Scroll to the 1-minute mark to see it:

My list:

1. Brady
2. Mahomes
3. Rodgers
4. Allen
5. Dak
6. Wilson

Is this projected QBs for 2021? Matt Ryan is expected to be the 7th best?

or is this career so far? Maybe how they did in 2020

I can live with both yours and Colin's lists. As of right now, with Brady, Rodgers and possibly Wilson, being at the tail end of their careers, the only QB I would pick over Dak is Mahomes.

That's not a bad ranking but I still think it is preposterous at this point in the season. Especially considering how little he played last season. I generally don't like preseason rankings anyway.

various:
As in most things... this is "fine".
It's at least not click bait(say hello chris simms and dan orlovsky) and it is probably fair.
Dak was first in yards and scoring when injured last year but he was seriously injured.
How one wants to weight that then becomes a personal choice.

Want to rank Dak 3rd? OK. Slightly homerish but again fair given numbers he put up last year and weapons he has returning.
Want to rank him as low as 8 and say ok need to see him on this ankle? Ok, feel free to do so.

But putting him top 2 or outside the top 9 would be hilarious trolling.

Other QBs:
Lamar: We've got to see him pass when it matters. Teams have adjusted to every run based attack there is in a season or 2. And QBs who take big hits generally wear down. Lamar is special but we need to see growth in the team's passing.

Josh Allen: Looks special but we need to see that continue to translate now that he has weapons. Those weapons are not young guys which can be a tough fit with a young QB's timeline. Did their apex meet last year and they fall back a bit? Quite possibly imho.

The best two QBs are clearly Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers.
Tom Brady is plenty good even as Senior citizen and probably deserves to steal Rodgers spot as he holds out for a trade or whatever.

I'd probably put Dak 4th. I think he is equivalent in talent to the guys here in this 4-8 area but has the best chance of success this year given this may be the most talent he ever plays with on offense. Change likely with Gallup and on that OL somewhere next year. But of course injuries could derail things as they could for any team.
Watson has large issues so has to drop until we know he can play. 4 or 6 game suspension seems very possible at this point.
Russ has team issues and weird zaniness there has to be figured out as he values himself more than other teams do currently.

Some of the young guys could make big leaps.
Baker has some talent around him and he has the requisite arm strength and ability to put up big numbers. But I question his decision-making, intermediate area accuracy and leadership.
Kyler is a monster athlete. Top of heap arms and legs. But its always tough putting it all together. Until he does he remains on the could be list.

Cousins: Good teams just seem to be able to take away what he likes to do and leave the offense in the mud.
Ryan: Losing his top weapon but reloading with a monster HBack. Should be interesting to watch. But he's also aging and taken a lot of shots. ATL could really use some balance on their offense.

I don't think any projection, based on statistics from a few games at the beginning of the season, last year, can be viewed as "fair". Now, if you want to just chalk it up to opinion, that's fine, but it's not "fair".

Anybody who has ever played any team sports, knows that a team goes through cycles during a season. You have ups and downs. Basically, Dak enjoyed a few games when the team was healthy, where he threw for a lot of yards. He didn't play when the team was not healthy so you don't know how that impacts the numbers. You are basing projections on what could have been the very best conditions. It's highly unlikely that Dak would have continued to produce those kinds of passing numbers throughout the season so you can't project based on those numbers.

It's almost guaranteed that Dallas would NOT have continued to put up those passing numbers.

In the first 6-7 games of the season, the very worst pass defenses in the entire league were the three teams Dallas put up big numbers on. Atlanta, Seattle, and Cleveland were the 3 worst.

For perspective, Cam Newton--who averaged a mind-boggling low 177 passing per game in 2020---put up 400 passing yards on Seattle early in the season

Those early games for sure could not be projected for 16 games...no way.

Having said that, I do think Dallas puts up big numbers this year. It'd be very hard not to unless we suffer a ton of offensive injuries.
We're loaded and healthy at Oline, WR, and RB. He's gonna get the numbers.

Excellent, well thought out analysis.

I enjoyed reading it very much.

Didn’t Dak play behind a makeshift OL for his 5 starts last year? No Fred and no La’el for the season, and Tyron was also gone for a lot of Dak’s starts.

I wouldn’t call those the very best of conditions. Yet despite that Dak shattered the all-time NFL passing record thru the first 5 games (despite not finishing the fifth game).

lol come on man...
This is the type of thing that drives me crazy.
Dak was ranked 1st STILL entering week 6.
And Dallas played the BEST pass defense in football week 1. The Rams

Yes, they ALSO played some bum pass defenses but neglecting to mention those two facts is just intellectually dishonest.

None of us know if Dak would have remained 1st but it's certainly fair to think he might have faded to 2nd or 3rd by regular season's end.
But arguing that with some shady context that precludes massive facts is just not it.
However he also missed a lot of games very very bad football teams where he might have easily shined.
As it was the games Dallas lost to CLE/SEA/LAR were all versus teams that won 10 or more games last year.

He played behind the starting line. Now, if you want to say that it was not as good as the year before, I would probably agree with that but I would also say that it didn't get any better later in the year. In fact, it got much, much worse. At the end of the season, the only starter on the entire OL was Williams. So yeah, they were the "Best Conditions" we had the entire season.

These rankings are like guys discussing which woman is more beautiful or what truck is better?

Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, Ginger, Maryanne, or Ellie Mae?
Chevy, Ford, Dodge, or Toyota?

Jaclyn Smith and Toyota Tacoma for me.

Interesting breakdown by Cowherd.

I feel like Dak, Mahomes, and Allen are gonna own the 2020s with 2 other names we've yet to know about. Could be a guy drafted this year tho. I think Watson and Jackson will fall off. Watson because he's like Michael Vick part 2 with his off-field issues, and Jackson because I think he'll decline as the Ravens do and they lose their running game and Lamar's legs wear out.

Look, I'm the last guy to disagree with you on Jaclyn Smith, she is definitely one of those women I fell in love with, as a kid, but Ellie Mae?

Lets just slow this thing down a little bit and think about this for a minute or two...........

I always liked Ellie Mae. Sweet, fun country girl and her dad was loaded.
