3 Cut Candidates On The Cowboys’ Roster Bubble Entering 2021 Training Camp

Couldn't agree more. Although a few others should be on this list as well.

"Here are 3 cut candidates on the Cowboys’ roster bubble entering 2021 training camp."

3. Quarterback Ben DiNucci ~ One of the fan favorites last season was Ben DiNucci. Although he was a fan favorite, DiNucci didn’t perform well in the 2 games he played. He was the 3rd or 4th string quarterback last season and only played due to injuries.

2. Wide receiver Noah Brown ~ The Cowboys have one of the best-receiving cores in the league, which makes it difficult to make the roster. Noah Brown was a 7th round pick by the Cowboys back in 2017 and has been a solid depth player.

1. Defensive tackle Trysten Hill ~ Hill is projected to be the 2nd string defensive tackle but could be cut. He was considered a reach when he was drafted a few years ago and hasn’t lived up to his potential.

Don't agree on Hill
He looked good before he got hurt.

I would consider putting Hill on PUP to give him more ‘time to heal.’ Looks to me like the Cowboys may get into a roster crunch. Cowboys might have enough players at DL and can strategically place Hill on PUP as an insurance policy.

Saves a roster spot and can always pull him off PUP before the season begins if needed.

After 6 weeks on PUP, he will be fully healed and could fill a need if someone got hurt.
Is Hill still hurt, or are just looking to stash him?

Tristen Hill might be one of our bubble players, depending greatly upon how he performs in TC.

There are other candidates to replace him on the defensive line if he fails to perform as needed.

Haven't heard yet if Hill is ready to go yet. He tore his ACL in early Oct, I think. Usually about a year. Which makes PUP a possibility especially if the Cowboys have a large number of players at the DL and don't want to risk cutting one and losing him to another team.

Could be short-term IR. I assume they will continue that rule this year. Good rule.

Just the messenger. With that said, Urban, Odighizuwa, Bohanna, & obviously Gallimore in the fold, plus FA Carlos Watkins, things could suddenly be awkward in any room that Hill finds himself in.

I honestly don't see him making the cut.
Well hopefully out of that group 2 step up and give us quality play.

Good idea, short-term IR, could be the way to go.

They wouldn't expose DiNucci last year as a rookie with the negligible rookie training of last year. To expose him this year would be a big vote of no confidence.

Noah is veteran bubble guy who gets the boot if they want to keep one of the rookies. Simi and Smith each are RAS freaks. Simi seems like a receiving prospect, Smith seems like a ST replacement for Noah, with more athleticism. I doubt that he can hold off both of them.

I expect that Wilson is a lock for the 4th.

With all the nothing we have at DT, hard to imagine them dumping Hill. They can at least hope with Hill.

I
Brown has been a good player and he has his role. He's more of a blocker than a WR but he can do both. I think he likely losses out to Fehoko though if for no other reason than contract, age, and potential.

If a rookie wants on the offense, he needs to beat out Brown. I think it's likely. It's too bad for Brown. He finally showed a little life as a WR last year, but he's totally buried on the depth chart and is off his rookie contract. Somebody picks him up and gets a decent veteran WR, but with Brown, Wilson, and Gallup all in their contract years, it's time to move on from at least one of them and train a rookie to take over as the 4th for next year.

Good chance one of those 3 gets traded before the season starts.

so Tysten Hill is another draft bust and a wasted pick by the vaunted scouting team . DeNucci was a MM pick which has not materialized at all. MM continues to make mistakes at every turn.

That's brilliant!!!

I don't think it really matters if DiNucci gets cut. He clearly wasn't ready to start, most 7th round rookies aren't. But his throwing motion was terrible. Garret should be the #2, I thought he played well.

We do have a ton of DT's but none of them have proved they are all that great. Hill looked decent last year before his injury. If he can come back from that he will at least be a good rotational player. Not really what you want out of that high of a pick, but not a complete loss.

This. ^^^^

Wouldn’t be surprised if McCarthy prefers a bigger receiver over Noah. I’d be disappointed if Hill is cut I think he needed one more year to really take a jump and then the injury didn’t help

not a list that's too far off. Nuch is probably a PS candidate...

Noah brown is not contributor as a WR. his ceiling is very low, we already know that. he is a good blocker. he is a special teams ACE. I think if he bulked up a bit he could be a smallish 3rd TE as opposed a WR who has trouble getting separation.

Hill is on the bubble, although some may disagree. he is competing with Urban, Odi, Gallimore, Watkins, Bohanna, Foilu, Hamilton, for 4, or maybe 5 spots. I think we may go long on DL, with at least 9, with a couple of players like Urban who can play DE and DT in 4-3 and 3-4..... Hill better show up. better be in shape. better hustle. better listen. if he is to make this team. for now Odi, Urban, Gallimore are probably shoe ins to make the team, with Bohanna (my pet cat) due to his size having a leg up....

Well stated.

Hill had better show up in the best shape of his life and impress in film study and improved awareness if he’s going to make this team. He’s now twice-removed from anyone that was attached to him and pulling for him.

It’s now all on him to succeed or fail.

I think they’d prefer a receiver on a longer contract and that’s the biggest challenge Brown faces.

Sure it would be disappointing but it won’t be surprising. Year three and nothing to show for it.

3 THREE? the cut down is like 90 to 53 then add PS back to what this season 10 so 63..so

20-25 guys will get cut..

That would be stupid. Dude needed to get snaps to learn. He came in last year as a different player who had earned the respect of the vets on the line.

Let's try to follow along.

Doesn't matter what he needs if he isn't healthy enough. Good roster management requires a big picture viewpoint. Sometimes you have sacrifice the present for the future.
