Troy has a great job that pays better than any GM job and requires half the time. Why would take he take on the headache of winning in Dallas with Jerry always looking over his shoulder?

Former star quarterbacks have a lousy record as GM's or Head Coaches. (Harbaugh was not a star).

From Norm Van Brocklin and Bart Starr to John Elway, owners have tried to inspire fans by bringing back their iconic hero in the hopes that success on the field somehow tanslates directly into a different area of expertise.

When you look at the majority of Super Bowl winning GM's, they spent 20 years in the NFL evaluating talent at every level starting with intern scout, then area scout to regional director.....to Director of Operations and then GM.

They earned each of their promotions by achieving documented success. They have expertise, experience and a vast knowledge in evaluating NFL and college talent.

Even if they were former players, they paid their dues in the scouting department

Jones doesn't fool me for a second and shouldn't fool Aikman. Troy would simply be an additional buffer subject to the specific whims of an owner who always wants the credit, accolades and recognition earned by those he employed.

Jerry has deluded himself into believing that performance results are some type of intellectual property. In other words, Troy's achievements are owned by Jerry because he hired him.

In conclusion, I love Troy but he is not qualified to be a GM. In addition, if he were to experience success then Jerry would immediately push Troy aside, grab the steering wheel and create the next Cowboy wreck.

For Troy to find any success, he would have to insist that Jerry not be involved in any football related decisions including communicating with the media. Jerry would be getting the same publicity and exposure given to normal owners.

We all realize that is about as likely as Dinucci becoming the next Roger Staubach.
That happens a lot in Major league baseball too.
Great baseball players make terrible managers.

Jerry knows it's safe to say because Troy would never want that job....and Jerry knows it. Great pointless statement to spin the marketing wheel for a few days.
Exactly x 1000.

If that’s true then why has Troy openly lobbied for it?

LeFluer. Had back issues as well.
This was my 1st thought. However, I would not hold that against Troy. That was a long time ago. They all make mistakes. Ask Jerry. :lmao:
Aikman was asked/horned his way into saying who he thought the better TEs of that draft were LaFleur was his "pick" if the underlying back issues were red-flagged then shame on them for picking him. But his input was on the talent. Not on go get him that was ultimately on the FO.

Last time Aikman had a hand as GM, he hand-picked some TE. Was the name David LaFlower? Worked out real well.

Aikman was never great as a QB. The team was great. Aikman stinks as an announcer. Listen to Aikman and listen to Romo. See the difference. One knows football, one doesn’t. Aikman is just a name some fans automatically gravitate to.
Aikman was a pretty good QB with a loaded team. I always thought he rode Emmitt's coat tails right into the HOF. Once he lost Irvin his days were numbered.

Yep, that team was made by Emmitt, Irvin, and the greatest OL of all time. No defense could stop the run even when everyone knew it was a run.

I was rethinking my answer and it occured to me that Troy is the kind of person that would seek a fearless evaluation of his limitations. He would have come to terms with that by hiring those that excelled in those limitations.

I think he would have a clear and concise distribution of authority. The Head Coach would have the specific authority to determine a players role on the team and he would be the team spokesman. The scouting department would provide the information on college and pro players and Troy would coordinate the effort to provide the best talent possible, both in players and coaches.

Aikman would insist that the Jones's limit their involvement to the franchise functions of marketing, public relations and financial management. Their only involvement with football related functions would be an evaluation of Troy's performance.

Nah, I have no choice but to maintain it will never happen. And if Aikman is hired it won't be for long. It took Dan Reeves one day to realize assurances from Jerry Jones is a cheap sales trick. It might be hours for Troy.

Why would Troy take this position that will never be offered to him?

Because he's a competitor. It would put him back into the competition. Give him new goals in the game he loves.

Heck, listen to his interview on Fish's YouTube channel. He can't say no when asked. He says maybe some day.

He'd be the GM here today if it was offered.

Whether he'd be a good or bad one is really besides the point. He'd at least be one that could be fired. That would be progress.
Yes. Just yes.

I'm confident Aikman doesn't want the job knowing Jerry wouldn't allow him the control a GM should have and needs.

What makes you think he wouldn't?

I feel the perception is that it would turn into another John Elway fiasco. Not that Troy is like Elway, but on the surface it seems like that. No one knows how he would turn out to be. But in reality, Aikman would never accept it knowing Jones' gang would still be pulling the strings and he would not leave his cooshy NFL gig for this. Good click bait though.

I don't disagree with that perspective. It would take Jerry's passing and Troy and Stephen having a long talk and understanding before I could even imagine Troy taking over the GM duties. Frankly, I think Stephen will want to take a shot at it before he'll be willing to let someone not named Jones be GM. Troy's current NFL gig is no doubt cushy but I don't think leaving that would be the deal-breaker that prevents him from taking the GM job if offered after Jerry's passing. I don't think it would be a fiasco at all as long as whatever understanding that Stephan and Troy come to is respected.

I want to ask everyone a simple question.

How do you judge the success of a GM?

My answer: simple, championships.

Second question:
What GM's have more championships then Jerry. I don't want the it's because of this or that blah blah blah, simple question. What GM's have more championhips then ole Jerruh.

After you get done trying to find every plausible reason for your head not to explode, you just realized. There is only one GM in the entire NFL with more Superbowl wins then your boy.

Have a blessed day.

The end.
