Right now the backup QB is Rush; with the Cowboys ready to make a waiver claim on somebody another team cuts soon.

Rush's lack of arm strength is a concern, but he's more experienced in this offense and showed some command last night. Gilbert has kind of regressed steadily in my opinion.

You guys still support this organization? Buying gear and paying too dollar for this garbage? We have the worst backups in the NFL.
Exactly what does supporting the Cowboys and the Cowboys having questionable talent at a backup position have to do with each other?

He had enough arm strength to take the Cowboys from being down 0-7 to being up 14-7.

I agree. The problem with Rush's arm is he can't really drive the deep outs and things like that. But he's smart, accurate, and an underrated athlete. He's stuck around this long for a reason; and I was glad to see him play so well last night since I thought he was getting some unwarranted hate from some fans.

What I didn't understand about that game was why did they give DiNucchi the entire 2nd half of the game?

I agree, Rush is the last man standing. Gilbert and DiNucci have shown that one is what he is and the other just is not ready to be in the NFL. But i am still not comfortable with Rush if Dallas needed to play him 2 to 4 games. The FO has put themselves in this position since April so i have no sympathy for them. They have been totally ignorant and extremely negligent relying on this trio to back up a Now they are in desperation mode and we will see what happens.

Not going to say I told you so about Gilbert Grape but he is what he is. The longer he is around the worse the warts get. That is the reason he has not stuck anywhere for very long.

DiNucci is and always was a project and he might need 4 years, like Romo before he is ready to play in the NFL. If the Cowboys were willing to commit4 years to him when they drafted him, why change now? And if they are not willing to invest 4 years in him then why did they use a 7thround pick to draft him because they were worried another team would take him? They will move him to the practice squad and hope no one else pick shim up off waivers.

I'm not sure drafting a player in the seventh round means you are committing four years to him. It more or less just means that you don't want to fight anyone to sign him to a UDFA deal. At that point, you're taking a flier. If you don't like what you see, then you move on at any time.

However, I still believe in the Landry rule, especially with players like DiNucci who need time to develop. So many of our fans are quick to want to get rid of a player before he even has a chance to possibly develop. I don't really understand that when there are plenty of examples of players who needed three or four years.

With the expanded practice squad, I don't really see what it's going to hurt to give him another year and see what progress he can make.

Still bugs me that Cowboys did not even try to bring in competition vs Garrett Gilbert. Just decided to grant him the No.2 backup role..based off one lone decent Steelers game in '20.
..and it's not like quality vet backup QBs are just falling off trees for the taking,.

- Rush does not ad lib when protection breaks down, he's a complete sitting duck for sacks,..and his arm doesn't drive well enuff into seams - might can get away with floating thrown balls into seams and sidelines vs 3rd stringers but when if he has to play against the more competitive teams and competitive players, he'll
be shown up as a scrub QB,...

Get foles

Cowboys not gonna trade for that Foles contract.
He'd have to be cut outright, and Cowboys then would have to outbid for his services, .. still quite iffy but if they were able to surprisingly sign FA vet Andy Dalton for
last year for a one year deal ..

Obviously, Garrett Gilbert has a strong arm and weak instincts. Being unable to sense an oncoming pass rush is fatal flaw for a QB. Those of us who were unfamiliar with his warts know more about them now. Let's see what becomes of our backup QB situation from here on. Perhaps, if we're lucky, we'll get a break when the final cuts are forthcoming. The C'boys staff should have enough sense to see the situation for what it actually is by now. If not, it'll be their own fault for ignoring their blindness.

Experienced vets with starting experience are usually available each offseason at €3-4m (the average salary for a NFL player). In hindsight, Dallas should have been an attractive location for a vet backup. Think about it.

- all the 1st team reps in training camp.
- all the 1st team game time in preseason.
- possibility of starting a game or two due to returning starter injury issues.

Rush will probably be the guy. Don't think they can bring some guy in and think he will know the system really fast, but oh well you can never tell.

Rush looked adequate if not improved. Still, it's shaky backup depth.

How did Rush look in the HOF game? 8/13 for 70 yards, 5.4 average. No tds.
How did Rush look in the Cardinals game? 7/13 for 89 yards. No tds.

Yeah he looked good this game but as far as I'm concerned they should dump all 3 backups and sign a veteran....
