Dale Hansen- Dallas WFAA TV broadcaster retires

It’s an end to an era after 38 years. Dale used his platform to speak out on issues surrounding sports which often were subjects that made fans uncomfortable but made them think .

He begun by reporting on SMU which help lead to their Death Penalty and later called out the Cowboys ownership with the Jones.

He was the most watched broadcast spanning over 4 decades in Dallas/ Ft Worth. And will be dearly missed.

This is the drunkard who was crying on the porch of young reporters half his age back in the day. Most of his broadcasts, he was lit as a firecracker, walking over from Louie's just in the nick of time to read the teleprompter. His coworkers despised him.

You just didn’t like his opinions. Which speaks more about you and your positions on issues than him being passionate enough to speak out. Thankfully WFAA allowed him to use his stage.

Hansen has won many awards in his career, including:

• Two-time Sportscaster of the Year by the Associated Press
• Four-time Texas Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association
• Best Sportscaster by the United Press International and Dallas Press Club
• TV Personality of the Year by American Women in Radio and Television
• Best Investigative Reporter by the Iowa Associated Press
• Communicator of the Year, the National Speech and Debate Association (2019).

In March 2019, Hansen was honored with the Radio Television Digital News Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, joining the likes of past winners Tom Brokaw, Robin Roberts, Bob Simon, Charlie Rose, and Andy Rooney. Hansen stated upon receiving the award, "What we do matters, What we do is too important to give up now."

Hansen made his reputation in 1986 when he and his producer, John Sparks, broke a story about a massive scandal involving payments to players on Southern Methodist University's football team. Hansen's reporting ultimately led to the NCAAcanceling the Mustangs' 1987 season—the so-called "death penalty." His reporting of the scandal garnered him a Peabody Award for distinguished journalism, a duPont-Columbia Award, and several death threats.

LEGEND. THE GOAT. Wow.....he did this profession longer than i've been alive. Incredible. I always admired him because he always spoke his mind and at times brought attention to issues that others were afraid to or didn't deem appropriate. Much respect.

Should be ashamed. He’s popular enough celebrity that these women would have brought charges .

I share few common views with Babe Laufenberg or Mike Doocy, but I think the world of those guys and their talent. Wouldn't miss a Sean Penn movie.

But Dale’s message makes a segment of fans uncomfortable. Which it should.

Hansen is one of the most respected and popular local broadcasters in Dallas history.

None of your unsubstantiated slanderous accusations discredit his career at WFAA or his opinions which of course you don’t agree with or like most who oppose feel uncomfortable with those issues he addressed being called out.

He made those who opposed so uncomfortable because he was so literate in his delivery. One of the best of this era. This is all you have because his message was powerful.

I've felt exactly like this about Hansen since 1992 for the reasons I gave you. It has nothing to do with a rant that 12 people watched live that ended up on Oprah.
