Is it just me or has anyone over the age of 50 noticed that the never-ending list of injured players on today's teams dwarfs teams from the past? I know the players are bigger and faster, yada, yada, yada but, I KNOW for a fact they don't hit any harder than back in the day. Heck, the rules don't allow them to ..

Why do these guys seem to run for the medical tent and IR at every opportunity? Pampered, been told you're the hottest thing since Tabasco sauce since you were 12 years old? Business decisions protecting the contract? Free agency and lack of team cohesion?

Love to hear your thoughts ..

im not going to say there are fake injuries

but ive grown weary of the amount of injuries in the nfl i understand its a physical game but every week theres about 50 new players on the injury report so it makes you wonder if they are faking it

Bill Parcells' used to to set standards for each player, weight wise etc for training camp. He said that those things create unnecessary injuries. I remember playing at 185lbs as a WR, and then I remember playing at 215lbs and that's when I blew out my knee. I'm not insinuating anything, but I think Bill was right on about this.

I played ball through college in late 60s....nowadays there is so much more knowledge, information and advancements in injuries, treatment and sports medicine. When I played you were expected to play despite injuries and we really knew no better. The absolute last thing you wanted was to be considered weak. So you pushed through things not knowing the damage you were causing. I have issues today from football injuries that weren’t a concern by trainers or medical staff back in the day.
To me it’s extremely hard to compare “back in the day” to now. So many things are different

Today's players are not only bigger and faster, they do hit harder. The linebackers of the 1960's teams were 6' and 205lbs-210lbs, smoked cigarettes and only lifted weights during the season. There were no 6'4" 245 LB linebacker cyborgs with 9% body fat running 4.4 40s who scientifically trained 12 months a year. Granted there were a few exceptions like Dick Buckus and Ray Nitschke, but most were like D.D. Lewis.

It starts with the training camps. Today’s players would never make it through those camps. Or even the practices during the season.

You don't want to think they hit any harder but of course they do. If you're bigger, stronger and faster you're going to hit harder. It's common sense. The players of today would physically dominate the players of that era you worship.

Injuries are such a big deal now because players are allowed to be injured. So they take advantage of it. The moment Parcells arrived in Dallas our injury report was cut in half. Amazing how that works.

What used to be a pain issue you played through 50 years ago is now a 4-6 week vacation for the player to talk about his feelings. It's the same weak mindset that has teams forfeiting preparation in the preseason for fear of injury and calling it smart. Yet for all that "intelligence" players today get injured more than they ever have.

Because the league doesn’t want to get sued. Every injury gets handled instantly

Business decisions. Players today are prolonging their careers. Players in the past would hide injuries because they didn’t want the back up possibly taking their jobs.

Like I said, it's common sense. I didn't expect you to agree.
Just like you got Prescott injury incorrect. I told you it was like a baseball players injury. I’ve been training with professional athletes for over 45 years. Who am I gonna listen to the guys i train or you
