Who would you try and re-sign now to get a bargain?

Yes, getting ahead of myself, but assuming this team is as good as it looks with 3 games in, now is the time to get some bargains. This can backfire, I think I prefer to keep the tension going all year and let these guys prove themselves, but realistically, the Boys can save some money if they sign now AND pick the right high character achievers.

Cedric Wilson has a $2 million 1 year deal. Do you think he would go for a $3-$4m multiyear contract? That's not much damage on the cap for a 3rd wideout, especially today. Has he shown enough now that his agent knows a payday is coming and will wait? No hurt feelings from Gallup who still has to play for his contract.

The journeymen we signed to one year contracts. Worth signing again? Let's be real, even if guys like Kearse end up with a fantastic season, what are the odds they repeat? Think 90's Cowboys defensive backs like Larry Brown and James Washington. But can we sign one for a cheap contract and depth? Or should we just wait for the next version of them in free agency next year?

Dalton Schultz. The way I look at his and Darwin's contract together is that both equal what we would pay one All Pro TE. We keep looking for that next superstar TE, but until then are happy with both of these guys, especially Dalton. How much do you think he will get in the market if he continues like this? Coverage is going to back off all year with our wideouts and his numbers will continue to grow.

The only potential holdouts I see are Tony Pollard who ends in 2023, and Diggs who ends in 2024. Both are making a lot less for their position if they continue to produce the rest of the year like this.

Players who have contracts ending after his year:
  • Connor Williams
  • LVE
  • Keanu Neal
  • Michael Gallups
  • Dorance Armstrong
  • Dalton Schultz
  • Cedrick Wilson
  • Brandon Knight
  • Luke Gifford
  • Ty Nsechke
  • Brent Urban
  • Carlos Watkins
  • Malik Turner
  • Maurice Canady
  • Jayron Kearse
  • Damontae Kazee
  • Noah Brown
  • Bryan Anger
  • Randy Gregory
  • Malik Hooker
  • Cooper Rush
  • Corey Clement
  • Jake McQuaide

I think the ones that you might be able to do deals with are Gregory and the receivers Wilson and Brown.

I feel the rest are all looking ahead to hitting the market.

I think all the cap room the created so far, were planned for the off-season moves.
As much as I would like for them to extend some of these players. It could hurt the cap and plans going forward. As too many should be kept.
And some I am on the fence about.

For me:
Schultz. I think Dak favors him and so does the staff. Master of nothing, but is good or above average in every aspect.
Neal or LVE. Give a honest offer to both, which ever one takes an extension cool. Need LB depth, and IMO the team parts ways with Smith or reduces his cap hit.
Ced Wilson. See if he wants some guaranteed money now or see if he wants to play up his value some more. However, once Gallup comes back his usage may drop.
Knight is a RFA, so tag. Future depth at G/T for cheap is a re-sign
Gifford is a RFA, so tag

Better question. How many of these guys would be in demand on the free agent market? Hard to say at this point. A lot will depend on the success of the team. All of these guys know they are playing for jobs in 2022. Right now, I like Knight, Schultz, and maybe Gallup if the plan is to let Amari walk and save the 20M cap hit.

After 3 weeks? None of them. Not one guy on that list that we can't afford to lose. Hopefully guys like Kearse and Schultz keep it up and earn a nice contract next year and hopefully it's here, but that's more a quantity than quality list IMO

I expect some of the defensive guys to go with DQ if he leaves. I like to keep 1 safety, at least. I'm a Neal fan, but Cox is a replacement for him. They have to sign Shultz. Ced Wilson and Noah Brown re+sign. RG, Urban are two DL I'd be happy to retain. A lot of contributors on this list...hope they can sign around half of them.

I can’t see DQ getting a head coaching job anytime soon.

We’ve only played 3 games so let’s pump the brakes. By end of season you might be asking for these guys to be cut

the only exception is Schultz
I’d try to sign him at the right price

Perhaps Watkins and Urban if they are cheap fir a year or 2.

the rest I wait till the end of the season

Gallup, Kazee, Kearse, LVE, Wilson, Gregory, Hooker

I know some of these aren't looking to sign team-friendly deals so they are as good as gone after this season but maybe they will be less willing to break up the band if it's a SB champ with the ability to win more.

We’ve played three games and because we’re off to a pretty good start some are already wanting to re-sign players. Let the season play out then figure out who we want to re-sign. How you feel about a player now could change by the end of the season.

Good list to keep but not sure we can afford them. I would like Shultz also.

Out of those guys, my #1 priority would be Schultz. He does everything well. He's a great safety blanket and still only 25.

I love Gallup and Wilson is a good player, but we've invested so much at the WR position already. 2 1st round picks in the past 4 years.

Hooker, LVE, Kazee, and Kearse are no brainers to me. Re-sign them. None should break the bank.
