Modern Day NFL defense vs Cowboys fans

This... The team D is not playoff quality yet. Trying to rationalize the poor play as it being "modern" is just that, rationalization. It's early in the season and we've got players coming back so there's a chance the D improves, but it's reliance on turnovers is not ideal.

It is playoff quality. It’s championship quality.

Super Bowl defenses are not that good. It’s more about the offense.

The truth is you guys just have to get used to defense being played this way. Dallas is playing defense at a high level. You’re going to worry yourself silly and get into stupid arguments about this defense.

Just know that all defenses are trash and Dallas has a defense that is not only less trash than others but at times it can make plays for our team with pressure and turnovers.

The Rams, who easily have the best defense in the NFL IMO, got absolutely lit up by the Cardinals today like they were nothing.

This is just the way the NFL is played.

The Panthers had the leagues #1 run defense. Did that run defense look like anything special? Rhule was trying to sneak a 12th man on the field today.

And part of the reason you cant compare offensive stats across eras.

The Bills have the best defense in the NFL this year.

But that being said, the OP is largely correct in his assessment of the modern game. NFL games in 2021 are determined, almost exclusively by which QB plays better on any given day. More specifically, the team that throws the ball more efficiently by advanced metrics and more explosively by YPA wins the overhwleming majority of the time. And most of the time, games between two above-average QBs will be very high scoring because of the current rules and how modern offenses operate (namely, the heavy use of RPOs and mobile QBs).

Doesn't really matter how defense is played today, you still need to have a pretty good one by today's standards. We're heading in a good direction, especially with the turnovers. but still have some work to do. We are allowing the fourth-highest yards per play, that's compared to the other defenses also playing in this changed league.

You've been making this excellent point for a while.

Some folks can't adapt to change.

I understand because I feel that way about baseball.

For some reason I'm ok with it much more in this game.

The Panthers have a good run defense, which ended up being statistically #1. However, I think the Buccaneers have a way, way better run defense than they do. It's a case where stats can be deceiving. The Panthers got great run defense stats while playing against teams that weren't all that great running teams. But the Bucs' defense is way better. The Bucs found a way to clamp down on our run, which was something the Panthers could not do. This great O-line and high-end running backs had trouble running against the Bucs, but were able to run down the throat of the Panthers.

I'm not ragging on the Panthers. They're a very good team. But if I could have either defense, I would pick the Bucs' one.

The game day thread is a terrible measuring stick on how Cowboys fans are judging the team in any facet of the game.
You get fans saying a player stinks after he mucks up a play then if the same player scores he's great.
It's an emotional roller coaster in there. Lol

The game day thread is so fast no one can possibly comprehend it all and also stay with the game in real time.

It's mostly people venting, not well thought through takes.

We should aim to be better defensively. In the last 2 weeks we’ve gone through stretches where the defense is playing tremendous. And at the same time the offense is just functioning at an elite level. We open these leads and then allow teams to just move down the field too easily.
A lot of the damage underneath. Short passes turning into long gains. That’s the stuff e have to correct.

We’re moving in the right direction. The youth on defense is something. But the offense is what gives this team a chance against anyone. The development is fun to watch.
