I would not be opposed to that.. Hell I would not even be opposed to Dalton to be honest. I just don't think it threatens Dak no matter who you bring in. The dude is playing at such a ridiculously high level right now you could bring in prime Troy Aikman and he'd have to sit until Dak got hurt. The only question mark I would have about Cam at this point is where is he with that shoulder. We all saw how limited he was throwing it the last two seasons. But there are some things you can do with a 6'6" 255 pound QB too! Then there is the issue of his not knowing our offense at all. And by some accounts not being the sharpest tool in the shed.. if the rumors that he was learning the Pats offense FROM Mac Jones over the spring and summer are true.
I do think you might be underselling Will Grier a bit calling him a scrub. That dude has talent.. I'm not going to hold it against him that Carolina ran him out there as a rookie against some good teams (Indy and NO) that ate him alive. He was in over his head and it showed. It would not bother me to give him one game to show us something before we declare him a failure. McCarthy has a pretty good track record for developing backup QBs.
We’ve seen too many apparently competent guys like Weeden come in and crap the bed. I never said Dakota would be threatened....I said his fans opposing quality backup are threatened.
When Dalton came in, Zeke and the rest of the team had already quit on that season. If they landed Cam, I don’t think the team would throw in the towel
Ronnie, if you remember, many of us never said Dak can’t play at a good level for this team.....we were mostly against the lopsided salary thrown at one position. There’s clearly not enough money left to have that quality backup that can make a deep run in the playoffs. AND have money for defensive upgrade.
Some of us fans do see the team with salary cap implications over emotional attachment
The reality is the big money is spent and unless somebody with talent and EXPERIENCE is willing to take less, we are stuck with inexperienced QBs if the going gets rough. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that but we are absolutely toting all the eggs in one proverbial basket
