Its not about which is better. Obviously you would like to keep all 3. But would this defense be better served resigning Gregory and signing a stud DT in FA with the money we pay Cooper?

There is no chance that Gallup costs us 22 million.

Cooper's cap hits were 34 million the last two seasons, with only 6 milliom guarenteed this year. Its basically a 3 year deal for 56, which is 18.6 per. He is making 22 million per year for the rest of the contract, but its year to year with no guarantees. You approach him with a renegotiation offering him another 40 in guarantees over the next 3 years, you can keep his cap hits about the same as what they were

Gallup will never get offered $15 million, and you know it. Weak to even insinuate just to try to toughen your pro-Cooper stance which definitely will be more expensive to keep. Gallup would be the much cheaper bargain (much more savings than the $3 million you are insinuating) to which the team could use to resign Schultz who is needed at TE.

I don't think Gallup can replace Coop.
I don't think he's that good.
I don't think Lamb is Lamb without Coop either and Gallup doesn't change the equation.

Just my opinion, but I get that there's a cap and sacrifices must be made as regards to personnel.

Some tough decisions ahead, to be sure.

I like Schultz. I would like to see us keep him. But he IS replaceable in the draft with a mid round pick. I would flip Jarwin for a pick, draft another tight end and try to resign Schultz “who knows nothing”.

I seriously doubt Cooper will accept much less base pay on a renegotiation. Cooper is still "young" (27 years old) and is right in his prime years, so renegotiating to keep Cooper will only cost the Cowboys more in the long run.

Players don't care about base pay. They care about guaranteed compensation. If Coop converts base to bonus, he receives his compensation immediately. That's why players are willing to restructure, and nowadays, restructures are automatically included in deals, so Coop might not have any say-so.

More in the long run really isn't an issue. What matters is not taking a hit higher than the dead money. Teams expect a cap savings when they end up cutting a player; the dead money end of it is the sunken cost of doing business.

I want to see how the rest of the season goes as far as ability to stay healthy and productive. Gallup might be the one missing time, but all these nagging injuries add up and slow Cooper.

My preference right now would absolutely be to keep Cooper and Wilson and let Gallup walk for what he'll be seeking in free agency.

I believe we'll keep Schultz and possibly the $4.25 million we'd save next year to cut Jarwin will allow that. First year of the deal should be pretty low.

amari is only 2 years older than gallup. he’s only 27 and squarely in his prime. gallup is also currently on the shelf and has missed more games this season than coop has in his career.

22 million be used elsewhere? This has always been a hot topic. It will certainly depend on Gallup. In my opinion we no longer need to pay Cooper 22 million when Lamb as the new #1. I try to sign Gallup for a reasonable price.

Depends on what Gallup’s asking price is. His injury has hurt his stock in a contract year— but he can certainly be a capable #2 with Lamb’s emergence as a legit #1.

We gotta save $$$$ somewhere— so Coop’s salary os a logical place to trim. We could look to add some talent at WR in the draft and Ced would also need to be retained as a #3 in this scenario— but he shouldn’t break the bank

Cooper disappears too frequently for that to be the case. It's actually Lamb, assuming he cleans up the drops. I'd rather have Gallup, he'd be far cheaper than Cooper.
