Dak has not passed Romo yet. He needs a few more years in or around the top 5 QB rating. Romo was consistently one of the top rated QBs year after year. If Dak can keep this up for a few more years he will be even with Romo. If he can have some real playoff success he will surpass Romo.
Interesting point. This got me curious so I went and looked it up.
Here are Romo's rankings year to year.
He was 5th in 2006 in 10 games
He was 3rd in 2007
He was 8th in 2008
He was 3rd in 2009
He obviously missed most of 2010 ranked 7th when he went down.
He was 4th in 2011
He was 10th in 2012
He was 8th in 2013
1st in 2014
He missed most of 2015 but that 79.4 would have ranked him 32nd. Yeesh!
So that's 5 top 5 finishes 8 seasons as the starter. Solid as hell.
Looking at Dak
3rd in 2016
17th in 2017
14th in 2018
10th in 2019
missed most of 2020 was sitting at 9th when he went down.
1st in 2021 so far.
Ironically both guys got hurt and missed most of their 5th seasons..
I think even the most ardent Dak fan would have to concede that Romo's first five seasons as a passer were superior to Dak's. However Dak never had the benefit of sitting and watching and learning for two and a half years .. so a fairer comparison would start with Dak's year three. Even then I might be inclined to give Romo the nod. No one can deny that Romo was VERY good to borderline great for most of his tenure in Dallas. I have stated many times that up until this year I would have ranked him ahead of Dak in Cowboys lore. But I do think that Dak has passed him up now.. But I would have to agree I need to see a couple more years in this stratosphere to solidify that belief.
