This is so refreshing to see from this franchise. Instead of our old "we love our players" mantra, this coaching staff is making accountability an actual thing. Play well or lose your job. I'm guessing this is as much to do with all of his penalties as it is to do with his actual playing ability lately.

Let's see what McGovern can do Sunday.

Williams can actually move so who knows?

And to answer your other question below I think Steele goes back to the bench, or we find a way to get he and Williams in as a super front in short yardage.

I hope this happens because I love having an OL at FB.

Still waiting to see the Hulk package on goal line/short yardage again.

Good move. But if Tyron Smith is able to play, I would have rather moved La'el Collins to Left Guard and plugged in Terence Steele at Right Guard while leaving Connor McGovern to play FB while perma-benching Connor Williams and keeping him as a backup to Guard and Tackle.

My best starting 5 Olinemen:

LT Tyron Smith
LG La'el Collins
C Tyler Biadasz
RG Zack Martin
RT Terence Steele

Hulk Package FB: Connor McGovern

Backup Guard and Tackle: Connor Williams

Backup Center: Matt Farniok

I agree.

So I hope we are both wrong.

Lots of moving parts on OL, just like vs Denver.

LT, LG, RT, FB/TE

And that's not even factoring loss of Amari.

On limited snaps, McGovern has an 85 PFF grade. Part of this is just McGovern looking good in everything they threw at him.

McGovern and Tyron replace Steele and Williams on the left. McGovern probably still has issues with pass protection, but should be an upgrade in straight ahead running.

Tyron, McGovern, Biadasz, Martin, Collins. Our best run blocking combo. Much more stout in short yardage and straight ahead running. Time to run people over. I'd still like to see us go some Jumbo Jumbo bringing in Steele and Williams too.

McGovern playing now prepares him for next year.

Depth is a good thing.

I know you guys bag on Biadasz but he is a monster in the run game and very athletic..

I don't think Biadasz is a monster in the run game yet, but certainly better at it, and is generally improving by the week. As is McGovern. We were already better at run blocking than pass blocking, and the move to McGovern only enhances that. Run the damn ball.

Martin and Smith are better at run blocking too. I expect the same with Collins. We're looking at one real monster of a run blocking oline, and I'd bring in Steele and Williams to see if we can just run it down the throats of teams.

Few defenses have enough DTs to contend with that many starting quality olinemen, even on a single snap basis, but it would quickly grind down any team by removing their DT rotation.

Run vs 8-9 men in box is tough sledding.

But either run or pass, Cowboys have advantage.

#1 Offense in NFL is due to dominance in both areas.

9men in the box means single covering the outside. If Cooper is in, teams would have no chance defending him and Lamb with single coverage.

It's the run/pass balance that makes us dominating. Try to take away one, and you set yourself up to be killed by the other.

Wow.. if true this is a monster move either way. If McGovern flops it means the coaches don't know what they're watching in practice and if he balls out it means they took 10 weeks to see what most of us saw in September.
So precise!

Great post

Actually, this isn't that surprising........MM put CW on notice. My guess is they've been warning him to clean up his penalties for a while. They have run out of patience.......
That should’ve happened 3-4 weeks ago.

CW’s penalties are an issue? Ya don’t say. We’ve all known this for 6 weeks.

Yeah, but coaches like to let players work it through. Apparently, CW didn't get the message, so he's benched. Now McCarthy's point should be clear.
