To those complaining about Dak's contract

we didn't won't to let him go, like garrett so some other team would benefit from dak garretts skills.

Oh, I know. But their anger is better directed at Jerry than Dak. The players are always going to want their money. I think a player should get paid for his work as any employee should. I say good on Dak for persuading Jerry to pay him that money.

Right on one point and wrong on the other.

No anger whatsoever, merely dissatisfied.....and yes it’s attributed to Jerry being fool enough to pay Dakota that contract.....just like the other big contracts not being lived up to

Which is fair, but I think Dak's contract is fair. There wasn't much supply for what we need. Dak isn't Rodgers or Brady, but he's a solid QB in his own right. Considering the other needs we had, extending Dak is reasonable imo. The numbers were a bit higher than I expected, but it's only by about $3 mil, so I'm ok with it. Additionally, Jerry only has himself to blame. He should have made a deal sooner. QB salaries aren't going to get any cheaper anytime soon, and just letting go of quality QBs to try your luck in the draft every 4-5 years isn't a recipe for long term success. Additionally, it's interesting that his contract ends the same year is Mike's. So, it tells me if Jerry doesn't like what he sees then, the next coach drafts his own QB.

This is exactly why you dont just take a QB when you need one. Dallas should be looking at spending a 1st or 2nd round pick on a QB next year or the year after. They have to start searching now.

They won't or at least Jerry won't. He is invested in Dak and will keep this going until he simply can't justify it anymore. This is year one of Dak's new contract. Just sit back and prepare for some mediocre football.

Jerry thinks he is worth that deal. That's what matters when it comes to that contract. I don't get a say in it and neither do any of you, unless you're in the inner circles of the Cowboys organisation. Simple as that. If Jerry didn't think Dak was worth his contract, he wouldn't grant that contract.
My dear boy.
The grumpy old men are going to be grumpy old men and that's the main reason why they are here all the time.
It's a release and probably a thrill (lol).
I get how frustrating it is to read some posts spewing the most irrational "truths", but who are we to police them?

I wouldn't want your free spirit and outlook to be policed.
No way.
This place is, thankfully, not like that, for the most part.

Of course, take my words with a grain of salt. I dance with the Devil by the pale moonlight daily and my outlooks are...

I go to my doctors/surgeons wearing shirts promoting 'shrooms and LSD.
It makes them uncomfortable, lol.

Good point. I'm just trying to put things in perspective, but I certainly see and agree with your points too.

See this is what I don't get. Saying that Dak isn't Rodgers or Brady - those are quantifiable statements. But to follow that up by "he's a solid QB in his own right" - can someone quantify that? What proof are we giving on this? I suppose the first question should be - what is a solid QB? Is there a template that we can all agree is a solid QB?

Sure. I'd say a solid QB is one that typically abides by the Parcells QB Commandments and keeps the team steady when the going is tough and usually gives us the best chance to win. I think that fits Dak. He typically abides by the Parcells Commandments, and he gives us the best chance to win usually. Is he perfect? No. Does he need help? Of course! I'd say all QBs do and being without your 2 best WRs certainly would make things difficult for any QB. I also like his intangibles. I think his background and what he's been through is an incredible story, and I think his leadership skills is something that is well documented and is something that people would agree he's got. That to me is a solid QB. I think what would take him from a top 8 to a top 5 QB is him running more and improving his pocket presence a bit more. I think his throwing is fine, and he finds the targets well imo. He takes care of the ball well. Hope this helps.

round one the finals. Fight!!!!

How many mistakes has Jerry made since being the owner? Way more wrong decisions than good ones.

Let that sink in, then read what you posted.

The point wasn't to defend Jerry, as much as I like Dak. My point was, rather than blame Dak for the contract, blame Jerry. I think a lot on here missed the point of the OP.

so the alternate to resign daks was what ?

spend the next 2-3 drafts trying to find a player that takes 3-4 years to get to daks level..we lose a bunch more games until then but hey if we win the draft that all that matters here right? tank get good draft picks become the jags, jets, browns ,panthers, skins, giants, and many other bottom 16 teams still looking for a QB like Dak? there are nt 20 qbs better then dak so 12 teams have very good qbs and we are one of them..

so hes not elite but hes top 10 those are hard to find we saw this show many times..

grow up..this is a team sport and daks not perfect, hes not elite but hes very good and at times great. you should be able to win games when the qb scores 28+ points and at times we fail to do so give up too many points like the bucs game and recently the raiders game..these are not on dak..

IMO hes had two games he was part of the reason we lost Denver but that was team loss really and the KC game that's on him for sure..

so he plays very well more games then not..get over it..plenty of football left to get where we want to go..

If the Cowboys were successful in landing a QB in the draft and he ended up becoming a very good and highly productive QB, that is talented enough to have the Cowboys contending for the playoffs, then by the time his new contract comes around, the Cowboys would end up having to pay him more than Dak is being paid, just because of the QB market.

I'm not sure what the Cowboys fans want or expect to happen, if they want there to be a franchise QB for the Cowboys that sticks around for a decade, then he is going to have to be paid eventually. No QB is going to take a big pay cut or take less in this QB market. What if the Cowboys trade Dak and draft a new QB and he doesn't get it done in 3 or 4 seasons. Do the Cowboys keep switching out or drafting new QBs every 3 or 4 seasons to avoid paying a QB big contract money?

Some fans say that Dak's big contract prevents the team from being able to buy a better defense, wouldn't it be harder to keep a better defense on the field and more top tier offensive weapons on the field, if the next Cowboys QB ends up being paid more than Dak has gotten paid? (Under the narrative that an NFL team can't keep up with a playoff contending roster or pay for a good defense, if the QB is paid a lot of money.)

If the Cowboys traded Dak and drafted another QB then one of two things would happen.

1. That QB ends up being a bust, doesn't live up to the hype or fails to do what Dak can do and the team/organization regresses from where they were with Dak as the QB.
2. The QB lives up to where he was prospected to be and becomes a very good to great young QB in the NFL and plays so well, that his agent is going to want him to be signed to a big time contract (Which would be even more than what Dak is being paid right now, with how the QB market works.)

No NFL team now and days, is going to have a franchise QB by keeping money in their pockets or trying to be cheap.

But I digress....

Jerry had a decision to make and that’s his call. I hope he was right but I’m still convinced that there were, and are, too many deficiencies on the roster to use that amount on one just guy.....unless he can overcome those deficiencies. It’s not been the losses that were surprising as much as the offense going AWOL and either getting just field goals or points too late in the game

Exactly, this sport is a business, and the players are employees. Like any employee, players expect to be paid for their work. As you correctly point out, the next QB, especially in case he is better, would wnt more, and the cap room is going to grow as is the demand by the players for their payment. With the way things are progressing, Dak's contract is going to look like a bargain compared to what the next sets of QBs will look like. Additionally, with the way the dollar is looking, I expect players are going to demand more to compensate for inflation. Thus, the cap is going to need to expand to accommodate that. There's a reason billionaires own teams. Sports teams aren't cheap. It's simple economics.

I will concede that the KC and Broncos games were disappointing with Dak. I thought he'd be better in those games (though, Mahomes wasn't much better that game). I agree that there are issues on this team, but QBs are going to want payment. Let's say we don't resign Dak and take a QB instead. We don't get Parsons. We don't know how that QB is going to be, and the D would be a repeat of last season or worse. Keeping Dak meant we got Parsons. That's one aspect I think people are missing. As to the Raiders game, I'll grant Dak a pass with the earlier quarters, and here's why. He was using WRs that he's probably not accustomed to yet. I think missing Coop and Lamb impacted team chemistry. I don't think chemistry should be overlooked. Dak has spots with Coop and Ceedee he likes to go to that he simply can't do with players like Noah Brown, and he probably didn't get much time to work them in. Note the large drops and some miscommunication during the game. Additionally, the stripes didn't help. Note that, once we got into the 3Q and especially the 4Q, he got into a rhythm with the other WRs and started to put up large numbers. Why? I think because he found ways that these WRs can catch well and what they do best. I think, especially if we get Lamb and maybe Coop back, we will see what we saw prior to the bye week. Why? Because Dak will get that chemistry back.
