They won't or at least Jerry won't. He is invested in Dak and will keep this going until he simply can't justify it anymore. This is year one of Dak's new contract. Just sit back and prepare for some mediocre football.

This year and next year he'll be a 17 and 18 mil cap hit if Jerry intends to keep Dak on the team. He's well worth it at that price. You can still build a team around him. It's the 3rd year when his cap hit spikes to over 45 that it will surpass his usefulness. So, what we'll need is a cap spike in 2023.

Exactly, this sport is a business, and the players are employees. Like any employee, players expect to be paid for their work. As you correctly point out, the next QB, especially in case he is better, would wnt more, and the cap room is going to grow as is the demand by the players for their payment. With the way things are progressing, Dak's contract is going to look like a bargain compared to what the next sets of QBs will look like. Additionally, with the way the dollar is looking, I expect players are going to demand more to compensate for inflation. Thus, the cap is going to need to expand to accommodate that. There's a reason billionaires own teams. Sports teams aren't cheap. It's simple economics.

Yes, unless some Cowboys fans think that the Cowboys are going to be successful ans sustain long term playoff/Super Bowl success by signing a bunch of journeyman QBs for a cheaper price, then the front office and Jerry Jones is eventually going to have to give up a ton of money if they want a true franchise QB who is going to stay with the team throughout most or all of his career. Even if the case of the Cowboys drafting a QB that ends up actually being better than Dak, that QB would end up with a big contract and most likely bigger then Dak's by several millions of dollars.

In 3 to 4 years the next set of upcoming young, promising QBs are going to start getting contracts that's worth more than what the current QBs have gotten and whoever is currently the highest paid QB will no longer be the highest paid 4 or 5 years from now. Some Cowboys fans act like drafting a young QB avoids the team having to pay him a big contract, but if he ended up being any good or better than Dak, then the Cowboys would still have to pay him. There's no way that any team can expect to hold onto a franchise QB by being cheap. As soon as Jerry tries to play the cheap game, then that QB is going to be gone as soon as he is a free agent and he'll go to a team who will give him a big contract.

Even Taysom Hill got paid big time money due to how the market is right now.

These are probably the same fans that destroy Jerry for being cheap in free agent spending. They want all the shiny new toys, but don't seem to understand that all players want payment for their services. There are 3 choices when it comes to QBs. You can sign your own which is costly, you can draft one and hope that he is capable of handling the role and doesn't take away from another key need like defence was this draft, of you can sign a FA. Two of those are very expensive. Jerry chose Dak because Dak gives us the best chance to win while not interfering with other needs this team had in the draft and because he's a better option than what was offered in the draft. Even if we did draft say a Justin Fields, these are the same fans likely that in 4 years will demand trading him and trying our luck in the draft again. That's how you become the NY Jets or Detroit Lions.
