and I have always argued, you can't look at a single stat and make any type of case, its totality of all of it including some subjective measures (coaching, team, etc.).

I only asked because you seemed to be using the "eye test" insult to mock the work of another poster. PFF gets used regularly here to make cases so I was wondering where you stand on that. I definitely agree with you that PFF should be taken with a salt chaser.

If you were put in charge of player acquisition for an NFL team, with your livelihood and reputation on the line, but you had to choose between making your decisions based purely on stats or purely on film study, which do you choose?

To me it's a no-brainer but I am curious to know what you, or anyone else thinks about that.

well, there is eye test with a biased glass (both Dak fans and Dak haters)....there is absolutely no denying that....both pick and choose certain stats,games, etc and different things to measure with their bias.... and there are actually a few dak detractors that say, I don't need anything, my eye test will tell me and then they fail in the most basic football concepts...go figure

then there is PFF, that at least tries to set some standards for its staff to accumulate some data. no one ever claimed PFF to be gold standard, but at least it tries to apply same standard to all NFL teams without bias. where it lacks is that sometimes they have to guess on a play to grade a player, without fully understanding responsibility, play design or intent of the coordinator in calling a specific play or formation. that's why I clearly mentioned you take PFF with a grain of salt.

and I don't eye test mock anyone...it seems you got very offended when I asked about the source, given the poster mentioned that bad throws were in 25-30% range and I questioned how did he come up with that and the source. legitimate question...if I said it was 1-2%, I would expect you to ask the same question. what's your source, how did you come up with that figure and who the heck are you....

and if I was in charge, I would do film study and ask my staff to put certain stats together for me....

Weak excuse by people who can't simply evaluate the player.

The whole discussion has become tiresome. Not because of the player as a person but because of the avalanche of drivel that the "he's the goat" posters have been hyping since 2016. Having to constantly wade thru the daily made-up arguments for why he is elite is what irritates people who can see the truth.

Good news is most fans have come around to the conclusion that when he plays well he is an above average QB and when he plays bad he's a crappy QB. More importantly most have realized that his "performance" is very much tied to who is on the field with him and how they play.

IF he ever shows he can carry a team that isn't at full strength, then we'll reevaluate his performance.

I have nothing against Dak as a person. I don't even know him. I don't like how he was calling out the fans the other day. The next step after that is him starting to throw teammates under the bus. His brother already talks crap about everyone on Twitter and Dak seems perfectly okay with it, so he probably already throws his teammates under the bus in private. His brother just echo's that on Twitter.

But anyways, Dak is not elite. He is average. It's year 6 and he is what he is. At this point you just have to hope to built an elite team around him and hope that he doesn't screw it up.
