What does Pollard have to do?

It’s painfully obvious to everyone but a few fans who think a fullbacks skill set is more important for a offense than explosive plays.

What is happening is this is shedding a big bright light on a major problem in Dallas.

They would rather send out 1 legged hobbling Zeke and not give Pollard a bigger opportunity because of a contract.
Painfully I agree. JJ wants the ball in the players he pays the most money to. And I will hand it to Elliot, he is tough. But these coaches are costing us as they know he is half the runner he usually is. He can pass block better than Pollard. But Pollards running is night and day better. Elliot would have never made that long TD last night. And if Pollard got Elliot’s carries in the chiefs game we would have been much better off. Elliot needs rest. I don’t know how much time but this 10 days is much needed..

I was watching football with my father when I was about seven years old. The team on offense threw a 50+ yard TD pass. Most of that the ball was in the air and not some run after the catch acrobatics by the receiver.

I asked my Dad why they just don't throw long every play. He told me that pass doesn't work but sometimes. The longer the pass, the more difficult, and offers less odds of success than shorter passes.

Your question is simply a different version of the one I asked when I was seven.

Long TD runs are beautiful. But they are rare. They are rare because defenses have more opportunities to hit the runner on any rushing play. The longer the run, the more defenders get close to the runner, and those opportunities occurring give more chances to make a tackle.

This is why you see a great deal of long runs in college but not the pros. Because the defenders are faster and more skilled and tackle better in the pros. You don't have a safety that is a math major with adequate, but not gifted speed and skills being run over, or around by a back that will prosper in the NFL like in college.

But in your reply here, is the kernel of insight into the way you think.

1. While you mention a one legged Elliott, you discount Zeke and his knee issue he's had for weeks, Your penchant for focusing on salary causes you to lament this guy's playing with less get-up-and-go than normal.
2. Other than that run for Pollard, how was his day? He was getting stuffed, just like Zeke. The guy you despise.
3. When the game was coming down to the final possession for Dallas, Zeke busted a 10 yard run. Not front page news, but the offensive line opened a hole and Zeke pushed his way through. When everyone in that stadiuym knew Dallas was running the ball to kill the clock.

Your displeasure seems to cause you to ignore the things you should see, and reasoning behind why the team does what it does, to make posts like this.

Pollard is a counter puncher, and thus some of his wiggle comes when the defense is settle in on Zeke. I like him, but I like the amalgam of Pollard and Zeke more. Especially when Zeke is healthy and the line actually opens holes.

But I think what is more telling, even if you discount my position here, is your complaints, some being totally illogical, and always fall back to salary when your point is in question.

Just like so many here.

And that is a shame. You are smarter than this.

I think.

Zeke ain’t moving squat. He sucks right now.

We aren’t moving chains. In fact we suck on 3rd downs.

You guys say these things like it’s 2016. It’s not.
Tony ain;t moving squat either.

A clever flats play...his bread and butter.....and refs holding their flags on our block in the back.....made for a single good play. GREAT! But tony ain;t moving sheet either.

Gotta fix the line and get more creative...a commitment to TRULY run the ball would be nice.

Why don't we just keep Gallup at roughly Elliott's contract and jettison Elliott and draft a couple new backs in the mid rounds? RBBC with Pollard the lead back

I don’t know if they can cut Elliot but if they can I’d think he’s gone this year.

You can replace him for much cheaper. He isn’t providing anything special.

I'd def be using him more too, but let's not act like the majority of his opportunities recently haven't been 1 or 2 yards just like Zeke.

Tony's not a horrible pass blocker, Zeke is just really, really good.

you ae correct in that outside of the big runs their yards per carry is about the same and is lower than it needs to be. But the difference is Pollard does get the big runs and Zeke does not.

That can be Zeke role.

Blitz pickup and short yardage. He shouldn’t be featured anymore.

This carry the load thing is stupid. Use both. Just use the better player, Pollard, more.

Pollard is a more explosive back but we only see his explosiveness when his carries are limited. He doesn’t push the pile like Zeke. He’s not going to wear down a defense. Our running game is so putrid right now we couldn’t even use it late in the game to try and eat up the clock. Pollard had the one long TD run but prior to that he was getting nothing. At times he can be a boom or bust type runner. He’ll go nowhere for eight carries then break one. When healthy Zeke is able to get 3 or 4 yards when there’s nothing there. He can wear down a defense. Zeke makes far too much money for the role has but the Cowboys appear stuck with his contract until after next season.

Yall had no problem with Witten being given a starting spot. Keep the same energy. Shultz and Jarwin proved that bs about nobody was good enough behind Witten was false

Who replaces Zeke? Don't say Pollard because that is the wrong answer.

We still need defense help and Oline help. Drafting a RB just takes away from that.

Most teams don't draft RBs early, nowadays. It's quite possible to get a very good RB in the 3rd, 4th round, or even later.

Pollard wouldn’t be as good if he was carrying the load. Felix Jones wasn’t as good and neither was Marion Barber when they carried the load.
How's carrying the load working out for Zeke? I think it has more to do with the quality of the play calling versus anything else. Pollard needs more touches that get him out in space. Misdirection. I wonder how misdirection plays would have worked against a defense that was over pursuing? It seemed like we just wanted to run the ball right up the middle without a care of actually doing any true play calling.

That is a Johnnie Cochran level of defense for our 1 legged tailback.

The entire NFL world see’s what I see. It’s just a few fans on here that think football is played like it’s 1992 that still think Zeke should be featured in our offense over Zeke.

2016 was the best Zeke because he had big plays in him. Those are gone.

So Tony Pollard not making an amazing run doesn’t bother me.

If he and Zeke are both getting 1 or 2 yards than I’d rather it be with Pollard because the upside is tremendous with the same downside as Zeke.

If you want to bring Zeke in at the end of a game, short yardage situation, to block, or you see a opportunity for his lumbering skill set to come in and be a 2007 Barber type of presence than I’m all for it.

But don’t take the bat out of your homerun hitters hands (Pollard) so you don’t possibly miss a single.

Both Pollard and Zeke need space right now.

The difference is Pollard can create space for himself and Zeke can not.

Our coordinator is doing nobody a favor in that department.

Zeke is not playing well...but neither is Pollard...he sucks also...as I said though, that is not in your agenda or narrative...
So...Pollard sucks right now....

Pollard is being used properly. He is a change of pace back. If we tried to get him 25 touches a game he would be worn down fast.

he’s struggled just like Zeke too.

Also, Pollard is UFA after next season.

likely gone for more $$$.

What some fail to understand is that, If Pollard were to start. Teams would devise a plan to neutralize him just like Zeke. The offensive play calling is not good enough to keep either back out of harms way.

Pollard, would run outside predominantly, and once that is closed down, he would end up on IR, due to nagging injuries. The tandem back set works. Just let Zeke heal up.

Here is a game with Tony Pollard being featured last season with Zeke on the sideline.

Spoiler alert.. He gave us a spark.. Something Zeke couldn’t do nearly all season.

It was working out pretty good for Zeke earlier in the season when are OL was playing well. He had 143 and 110 yards in back to back games. It’s been a rough go for Pollard and Zeke since then but Pollard is able to crack a long run every once in a while. He kind of reminds me of Felix Jones. Once Felix Jones became the every down starter the long runs and explosive plays stopped. He was much better suited as a complementary back, that’s what he was in college. It’s the same with Pollard. Our OL isn’t playing well. It’s clearly affected our running game.

You immediately start deflecting, making claims you suppose and cannot actually back up, and then refer back to Zeke and his big plays in 2016, which again is you ignoring big plays are not the norm.

And your home run hitter comment underlines your mindset that Pollard can rush like a tailback in division II as he plays on a field with professionals.

I like Pollard. I just do not believe he is this 1500 yard home run hitter you think he is.

Rabbit hole warning.

Also, Pollard needs to understand the game itself and how the team is struggling, and on kick-offs not run it out of it gets to the endzone. He did this again last night and left yards and field position on the table as he was tackled into the twenty.

To earn more opportunities?

After scoring a 58 yard touchdown on a big run in the 3rd quarter one would think he would have more than 2 carries in the final 4 possessions.

Why so few touches after breaking off a long run? This isn't the 1st time Moore has gone away from him. In the KC game, Pollard's 1st touch broke off 31 yards. He then only got 6 other carries.

Outside of pollards big runs he and Zeke have nearly identical yards per carry averages so why not feed the 1 guy who has shown the ability to break off the bigger runs? I'm not saying he needs 20+ carries but 12-15 would seem to be earned.
not sure what the problem was last night, but Zeke was clearly not well. he couldn't run and had a funny hopping running motion. now, pollard is capable of breaking in a big run. but in his other 6 carries he had 13 yards for a 2 yard average.....zeke had 45 with 13 carries about 3.5 yard average. neither is that good but NO has a tough defense....perhaps Zeke is a little more consistent in getting yards, but not a threat to break it big. pollard maybe less consistent and has ability to obviously break a big one. so they have to see game by game how they are panning out...but last night for sure, zeke should not have played.
