Malik Turner has me not so worried about losing Gallup

I agree. I think it’s more a combination of him and his agent feeling he won’t get the targets he needs here to at least be a productive # 2 and a team paying him commensurate to that potential production. Maybe a team like the Giants.

He may also want to stay if he doesn’t get that much action on the market or if the only teams top bidding are bottom dwellers like Detroit and Jacksonville.

He’s not a selfish player but he knows he needs to earn more than that 3rd round contract he’s been playing on.

We also would accept a 3rd or 4th round tender losing him, so that’s the other variable.

I think he will get offers the problem is how much are the Cowboys willing to invest overall at WR? especially when there are other players especially on defense that must be addressed. I love having Gallup and I'm a fan of his as well but in the end I don't see Dallas investing much more when they have depth at WR.

Turner should've just gotten the first down on that play. Plays like that are fools gold in that the next time he tries and doesn't get the first down, we'll be all over him. Was a fun play though.

Also, haven't seen enough of him to even entertain the idea of him replacing Gallup. My gut tells me he's not a complete enough wr to do so.

You can go find a guy like Shultz they are available in FA and the draft. Dak made Shultz, not the other way around. I like Shultz, but he is not worth the money he will get offered.
If we let him go, you do realize we start next year with no TE? Jarwin at this point cannot be epxected to contribute to this team in any fashion, depending upon how insane his contract ask is we need to resign him if at all possible. You can't just snap your fingers and find a "guy" that is Dak's safety blanket. There is no argument to be had here, so don't even try to convince otherwise

Nope I saw it, then you said this as if the injury had nothing to do with it:

He’s got 403 yards and 1 TD in a contract year.

Wouldnt you say the two are directly related?
They definitely are directly related. He’s an injury prone player at a young age. Calf injury for half the season.

In the NFL, the most important factor for a player is availability. Then talent. Then smarts. Availability shows durability and passion for the game.

If you’re thinking of bringing up Dak, different situation. Look at guys like Malik Hooker’s situation. Ultra talented and impactful when healthy playing. But not consistently available.

Coopers been playing with fractured ribs, busted hips, tweaked ankle and bruised feet all season.

When he was out with Covid and Lamb and Gallup were the starters how impactful was Gallup? He wasn’t.

Gallup needs a legit number 1. It was 3 seasons ago he had 1100 yards.

He’s a good player but it’s not showing up in a contract season as it should have and having an injury isn’t a sales pitch that will net him this supposed abundant deal posters are suggesting will be available to him.

Haven’t people seen the WRs that are coming out of these drafts in the top 3 rounds? They’re more pro ready than ever and they’re playing on rookie deals. Teams are drafting. Vikes let Stefon Diggs walk and drafted Jefferson. It was an even decision talent wise and even better cap wise.

We had Gallup and still drafted Lamb knowing we just gave Amari his deal. That was MM’s 1st draft here and we all knew we needed defense.

Gallup is leaving for targets and will get a mediocre pay day whether we sign him or another team, not because he’s going to get $15,000,00 a year. Not even $10,000,000 a year. The cap went up a good chunk, if he’s affordable and wanted by MM, he will be here.

Are you aware that Gallup missed nearly half the season? I will take that bet. A guy like Gallup will want to have an opportunity to be a #1.

Only way Gallup stays here is if they move on from Cooper. Which I dont see happening.
Agreed. And I actually forgot he missed like 6 games. :omg:

I've compared him to Alvin Harper. Dope #2 (in this offense he's #3), but if he leaves he will be a meh #1. Harper didn't do so well in Tampa without the Playmaker drawing double teams that let him feast when he was in Dallas. History might be repeating itself here.

Gallup has his own special skill set. No one on the team can replace it, but yes we have enough WR talent to overcome the loss.

I am comfortable with Cedric and Turner as the 3 and 4 next year. It will be sad to see Gallup go! It is important for Dak to have a guy like Shultz - that is going to be a tough one.

According to Sportrac the Market Value for Gallup is going to be about $11.6 million. Wilson will be $6.1 million and Schultz will be $12.2 million. That's per year. The question is who will be harder to replace. Schultz, Wilson, Gallup or Randy Gregory and you have to make this decision before the draft.

The Cowboys CAP situation is going to preclude them from signing all of them. I still think Gregory will get between $16 million and $18 million per year. That's a lot of cheese for a Cowboys team that is projected to be at least $11 million over the CAP in 2022 with only 41 players signed.

Based on Spotrac, Turner is a UFA after this season.

He is out of Illinois and originally signed as an UFA with the Seahawks.

My guess is he signs with another team for more money and playing time.

Brandon Smith on the PS might be just as good. We’ll see.

I think they would offer Randall Cobb money.

They would be fine drafting.

Again, he leaves because of targets/some foolish team overpays. I don’t see teams going nuts over Michael Gallup. He’s a role play WR and at best a 2nd WR.

Teams are drafting these pro ready WR’s more so than signing them. Rounds 1 to 3 in bunches.

Atlanta traded Julio Jones and a 6th for a 2nd round pick next year (equal to a 3rd) and a 2023 4th (equal to a 5th or 6th). At the time, he was a top 3 WR in the league. Maybe the best. Titans pick in the bottom 20 of the draft.

Michael Gallup does not change the dynamic of your offense. He compliments it and is not a diva so there’s no pressure on the QB when he needs to utilize him. That’s Gallups impact.

Teams aren’t going to sell Michael Gallup Jerseys as a new signing. That is the business reality in paying a player also.

Love this defense so my choice would be Gregory and Shultz and replace the other guys in the draft. Shultz is not worth that but he is Dak's security blanket. I would try to keep Cedric as well but WR will be there in the draft, not DE. TE may be as well but what is the adjustment period for Dak?

He had one nice play and you're putting him right next to Gallup? Wow, these Standards are as low as they come.

It was a fun play though. Nice Rush Turner COOPeration. ;)

Anyone else thinking this last night? When Turner has gotten his opportunities, he has produced well. Good hands and has some speed and moves. I like him. With him as our #3 next year I am not so worried about losing Gallup.

Cant keep them all.

To me we need to keep this defense together. Gregory and Kearse need to be the top 2 priorities in the offseason.

Gallup is gone and I would let Shultz walk if he wants big money.
He’s nothing like Gallup but he’s developing into a guy worth being on a roster

Someone will have to step up. Hopefully they’re already on the roster to make things easier.

He looked like the second coming of Woody Dantzler out there. I believe he deserves more opportunities to prove he can be a legit WR. I like that he plays with a lot of energy.

Wow, I never thought of that!!! They will have no one at TE!! Better pay him then.

Do you know who Golladay is for the Giants?

Either Gallup or Cooper is gone. I would bet Gallup.

Gallup is clearly a luxury at this point that we realistically dont need and cant afford.

This isnt about Turner being as good or better than Gallup. That is simply not the case.

As far as Turner being a Lamb replacement, that is about as laughable as it gets.
Not saying he is a Lamb replacement I am saying that would be a better comparison because they are both YAC guys....
