Waste of time for meaningful discussion cause no new evidence is ever going to be given.

Take this discussion we’re having, not really productive at all. Just like most of the discussion to be had in TJ Watt threads.
Tell me what discussion on this site has made one iota of difference to what Jerry has done?

There's only one reality and that's the Cowboys picked Charlton over Watt

Everything else is just fantasy rueage.

You mean the “reality” that he was there for Dallas to draft?

And the “reality” that the organization allowed a fossil of a coach to overrule scouts?

And the “ reality” that we now have nothing to show for that 2017 1st round pick?

Yes?

I'm not sure what your point is here. The Cowboys drafted Charlton. Reality.

Wishing to have Watt is just that - a Wish. A Fantasy.

If they would've got Watt they wouldn't have had Parsons...maybe not even Diggs.....
Parsons was an MLB, Diggs a CB. There is nothing to suggest we wouldn’t have drafted either.
The only certainty is we wasted a first round pick on Taco.

This is pure opinion based on my part but to me if they get TJ Watt with Lawrence here.....I think our pick is too good to draft guys like Lamb or Parsons.....I also think our pick is too good to draft Diggs in the 2nd round...it would depend on when he got taken.

My point is, people rueing about Watt as if all you would do is add him to this team...but that's not the case. You draft Watts and you have a completely different team. Maybe for better or for worse. All I know is we took Charlton..failed and now we have one of the best defenses in the league......and Maranelli and Garrett are gone.

- we took Taco ..because there were serious legit issues with the DEs ... DLaw was coming off a 1 sack season in 2016 ..
and of course Gregory was continuing to have his suspension issues
So thus the edge rusher names of names of Wat and Taco ...

- from what i heard then, Cowboys actually considered Taco more of a 2nd rd value guy than a 1st rounder, but they were so paranoid about not having any valued DEs still
on the board that they " reached" for Taco.

- Ironically the other guy that went one or two picks ahead of the Taco was Tak McKinley whose been a bust and journeyman in NFL - some assumed Cowboys anted him, but contrary to rumors
his name i was Not hearing by the Cowboys pick,.. it was Watt, CB Kenny King (another bust) and Taco ..

- Lamb and Diggs just does not equate into the Watt/Taco pick, imo... in fact McClay got blasted with board criticism because they picked Lamb over LSU DE K' Lavon Chaisson who went to
the Jax a pick later . ..and where is K' Lavon Chaisson nowadays ?

Its such a terrible assumption to think wed have watt and parsons on this defense. If we draft watt we in all likelihood don't have the worst defense ever last year. We are prob drafting later. Especially if dak doesn't get hurt. We have no clue how things would have played out if we had and all world defender like watt.

0 chance wed have him and parsons.

Exactly a reach for need, instead of taking the better football player.
That tends to work out badly more often than not.

So in your wildest fantasy, drafting Watt results in the exact same record, the same exact draft position and the exact same needs.

I’m not saying that, it’s just it didn’t preclude us taking either.
Had we a worse record last year then we probably take a CB with our first pick.

I'm not saying they wouldn't have addressed the position. What i'm saying is if you had Watt on this team last year you are not 6-10 you are probably closer to 8-8 or 9-7 and that would've had you out of reach for Parsons.

The “reality” is continuing to acknowledge one of the worst mistakes this franchise has ever made.

Watt just tied a league record another “reality”. Taco is on the side of a milk carton.

Ah! I get it. Screw the wins let’s have a higher draft pick.

lol

nah I just think he’s saying those players wouldn’t fall into our laps with worse draft position, so there’s not a point salivating over a Parsons/Watt combo

I don't see the issue with re-hashing past drafts. It is exactly what fans do. And it's not like we are talking about a DT and TE here. We are talking about two guys who basically are pass rushers, or were supposed to be.

Furthermore, this was a relatively recent draft and many guys here I recall were saying we should have drafted Watt so now those guys are coming back to say, "I told you so" and I find that legitimate.

In retrospect, Watt was the better selection. People are just pointing that out - and doing a little I told you so. I will not get old until Watt retires.

Here's what gets me ...

- Watt at 250 lbs coming out of Wisconsin was not a hands in the ground scheme fit for Marinelli's 4-3 as a DE ... ....

- But Marinelli in 2015, had no problem drafting a 237 pound Gregory coming out of Nebraska, and putting his hand in the ground in the 4-3 as a DE ..?
