He has the best of both worlds. Booger catches the blame and all he does is get credit. If he screws up, we exclaim "Booger made him do it!!!"

I agree. Unlike elsewhere where he would have the GM title, he would also have far more accountability and criticism, as well as less loyalty and support. If he makes a mistake in Dallas (like Taco vs Watt), he’s part of a group that made it. If he makes that mistake as ‘The GM’, he might not survive it.

He and the Cowboys have a good thing going and I hope everyone realizes that.

I cannot imagine McClay has been helping to build the Cowboys for years as the GM-without-the-title and now that the team seems to be benefitting from those moves, that he would want to make a lateral move for the same position that only has a different job title with a team that needs several drafts to improve.

There is only one job in professional sports where you are functioning like a GM with zero accountability. McClay has that job. Why would he look for more headaches?

Never underestimate ego and a challenge. Going there gives one the chance to resurrect a storied franchise in the top market. Your a hero for generations if you do.
