Soooo no real changes coming? No surprise.
What Jerry and Stephen need to do is do the opposite of what their gut tells them.
McCarthy is an average HC that the Jones boys hired because they believed Big Mike when he said he changed the way he coached after leaving the game for a few years. It's clear he has not. He still struggles with end of half, end of game, clock management situations, for example. It should surprise ZERO people that our season ended on a strange play that was questionable from a clock management perspective. It should also not surprise anyone that McCarthy's apparent understanding of the protocols in that situation was bit off too.
Jerry and Stephen need to go outside the comfort zone. Fire McCarthy and bring in a guy who is going to demand more control. For 25 years, the Jones family has run the Cowboys in a way where they exert all control and what they want is a coach who will fall in line with their vision of how the Cowboys should work. And it's been a a complete failure. They haven't sniffed a NFC Title game since Switzer took the team Jimmy and Jerry built to the SB.
That dynamic in the 90s - "Jimmy & Jerry" - resulted in a great run. But Jerry doesn't like sharing the billboard with anyone. So it couldn't be - "Jerry & Harbaugh", or "Jerry & Reid".............. it has to be "Jerry". That's it.
Until Jerry and Stephen accept how they have run things hasn't worked, and frankly from a historical perspective, failed, nothing will change. They'll float in purgatory bouncing between just bad enough to miss the playoffs to just good enough to make only to get bounced by a team with a pulse.
