Interesting Collins evaluation

Terrence Steele can play RT. Only 1 better bargain at RT in the league that I know we have a shot at utilizing. Gets our best 5 on.

Especially if Collins can shore up the LG position for the next 2 years. Then we’re just working on Center and starting to draft/develop the future of the oline as it is now aged.

He's not going to do that b/c he is already one of the best at his position. Plus, why would you down grade the tackle position? Tackles are much harder to find than Gs.

Collins will be better next year. I'm not worried about him. I'm worried about LG, C and a solid backup LT.

What do you want to do at LG? Terrence Steele just sits and plays swing tackle?

Draft? Lots of highly graded guards in this draft with 1st and 2nd round talent. ;)

Go by your very own eye ball test and decide for yourself. ...
Eye ball test doesn't work on the telecast....and this is kind of my point...the telecast will highlight one bad play by a lineman and then people will say "he sucks"....or if he gets a penalty they will say he has a bad game. Nobody knows what they are looking at when it comes to offensive line man play. Well I say no one but I mean the average fan.

At getting penalties, he's the 4th most penalized player on the team. The time he clearly got man-handled he ended up getting a drive killing penalty

It's about the frequency of the penalties. The really great players do not commit so many.

Nobody has any idea how to grade out a offensive linemen.....i'm convinced of it. Fans go by what they see on TV so I really don't trust their opinion on it....and people who look at film....they all just seem to see different things. I've heard a lot of people say Tyron had the worst game of his career......
Bingo....OL is maybe the toughest position to truly judge by the casual fan, maybe outside of QB. We don't live in a day of just having 5 maulers who either get movement on their man or not. So much of todays game is creating lanes by walling off defenders in zone schemes, or sometimes even letting the bullrusher over pursuit a play. Its more sideline to sideline movement from O lineman than ever before. More protection changes at the LOS, and its hardly every the man in front of you that you'll actually be responsible for post snap. More pulling, more slide protections, more creativity on defense in stunting, etc. Most defensive positions, receivers, RBs, even QB to a lesser extent you can generally figure out the assignment by rewatching a play. For Oline play you have to really understand Oline play to make a judgement. That is where with Oline play you almost have to look at multiple sources. They eye test alone, PFF alone, etc wont ever tell the whole story.

While I agree.....if a guy plays 80 snaps....commits one or two penalties in those 70 snaps....but dominates in the run and pass blocking game is that a poor game?
One or two is reasonable and to be expected. Kind of like Smith. But Collins is the 4th most penalized. That's got to get cleaned up.

Id try trade him for 1st round pick. Otherwise keep him.

No one wanting to keep a well paid NFL front office job is throwing around 1st round picks for Collins . Bill O’Brien and Dave Gettlemen aren’t around anymore

The problem is Zeke and our run plays. Why was Mitchell goin 4 yards without getting touched. Zeke is terrible he doesn’t know what hole to go in or when to cut back.

Pollard did not do any better.

They all do. I'm so tired of hearing how we got the top unit....how can you have the top receiver unit but got the top drops? How can you have the best line but the most penalized? Doesn't add up.

You're not wrong, 5 of the top 6 most penalized players are O lineman. The crazy thing is that there are some willing to call that "making excuses."

I would like to see a veteran at LG. Its not a big ask. We just need a solid veteran whose not going to draw 13 penalties. Sherff is going to be too expensive, but we could probably land Laken Tomlinson.

Excellent in a run game that produced less than 50 yards? OK. I guess excellence is a bit different than I remember.

When a run game struggles it doesn't mean all 5 OL sucked.

The problem you run into is you have a TB that is a between the tackle runner now and you have a LG and C that simply aren't very good. That's going to kill any sustainable run game.

I think we draft and get a vet who can backup guard and Center like Looney could.

At pick 24 and this draft being heavy with OL talent, not tackle. We can get 1 or 2 top caliber olineman in the first 3 rounds. That goes for guard and center. A good vet is going to be too costly and the ones out there are aged like the top 3 players we have on the line.

Collins at RT works for me. But let's say Ball really balls out (pun intended), then I could see moving Collins back to LG and then looking for a C upgrade.

At this point I like going youth on offensive line but damn we might need to get back to basics and just get some solid veterans.....Montrae Holland type guy out there or something.
